Thomson 643s- quick question

I have recently purchased this tv and have so far been relatively unimpressed by the performance.
Most signals have a lot of noise on the picture, for example when focusing on things of the same colour I just get quite a dirty picture.

I currently have the tv setup to a rooftop aerial (with a cheap cable) and an xbox (with the xbox rgb scart). I know these arent the best sources but i expected the picture to be better than it is due to thier past performance on my old tv. Is an expensive dvd player and freeview box the solution or is the fact that its an ex-display model with some wear to blame

Cheers,
Michael

I've been thinking about getting one of these thomson Tv's the only thing putting me off though is the stand as it looks like it only has one shelf, can anyone confirm this? Would I be able to get my Av amp, DVD player and SKy+ box underneath it?
