Best CRT/graphics card combo?

Hi,

I'm looking to get a new widescreen CRT (can't afford LCD/plasma) and wondered if anyone could tell me what I should be looking for to get the best picture from a computer on it. Don't really want to buy one of those boxes that sits between the two, would prefer a direct connection. What sort of connection is best though? Component, s-video? Should I be looking for an HDTV ready set (will this allow me to use higher resolutions)? Progressive scan?

TVs are so much more complicated than they used to be!

I haven't bought the computer yet either so if anyone could tell me what I should be looking for on that side of things (i.e. which graphics card) then that would be great too. I'm going to use it to play video files and also do the occasional web browsing/mp3 playing etc. (so will need to see the desktop). Won't be using it to play DVDs I don't think. I'm not looking to be blown away by the quailty, just want something that isn't going to look completely rubbish.

All advice greatly appreciated,

cerv

for the tv I wouldn't want to spend much over 700. But if there's something that would be great but is a little bit more I could be tempted.

Nvidia Geforce cards produce the best output to a tv screen when used with a program called TVTool (built in tv output isnt that great). Looks great on any tv to be honest so your choice of tv shouldn't be judged on anything other than DVD/Tv and the Pc output will be just be a bonus.

Look at JVC DIST sets and try and get a graphics card with component output.
