Test DVD

Hi,

Can anybody recommend a dvd to test picture geometry with?
e.g. free with magazines or something from LucasFilm?

Thanx.

I use the THX Optimizer which is on Lucas DVDs (eg Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Star Wars etc) plus various others including Monsters Inc. It has tests for Contrast, Brightness, Convergence, Geometry, Aspect Ratio check etc.

Also look on for the power buy section, you could pick up a DVE disk on the cheap. They are worth the extra money.

Thanks, I'll rent a THX optimizer DVD and try it out. What's a DVE disk?
How much are they? Better than THX?

Digital Video Essentials. It is a comprehensive set up tool, much more detailed than the THX freebie.

I found the DVE disk on Amazon.co.uk. In one of the reviews:

Quote:

"However, no guidance on setting up Geometry (pincushion, trapezoid etc.) even though the test cards are ideal for this."

Is this true? I would like to set-up the geometry if possible.

There are a huge amount of test patterns, if you wished to use these to alter the geometry the DVE would help but there is not a set-up chapter detailing how to do it. Maybe the risk of a person getting it very wrong is why they left it out but I am only guessing.

Might be worth looking at http://www.videoessentials.com/index.html

Thanks for the link. I think I'll order it. I could always get geometry adjusted by an engineer. Having said that, maybe not with Mastercare!
