Philips Service Menu : Geometry Settings ?

Philips Service menu settings :

Can anyone help me out with what exactly the settings in the Normal geometry menu do ? :

V slope
V. shift - moves picture up/down ?
V. amplitude - resize picture up/down ?
V S-Correction
H. shift - moves picture left/right ?
H. amplitude - resize picture left/right ?
East/West Parabola
Upper East/West corner
Lower East/West corner
East/West Trapezium
Horizontal parallelogram
Horizontal bow

Thanks,
Kim

Ok, you'll have to bear with some of my character drawing attemtps at replicating a screen image, but here goes...

This is your tilt control. i.e. if the image slopes up or down you'd use this to correct it

Yes

Yes

V S-Correction
Not sure what this would do.

Yes

Yes

East/West Parabola
You'd use this if the vertical lines, when viewing a 4:3 image were

(__)

or

)__(

instead of

l__l

Upper East/West corner
Lower East/West corner
Would affect how far out or into the picture the corner curved (sort of like the parabola but for the top corners and bottom

East/West Trapezium
If your on screen image does this:

/__\

or

\__/

use this control to make it go

l__l

Horizontal parallelogram
For if your screen does

\__\

or

/__/

to make it

l__l

(I think)

Horizontal bow
I would think this is the same as your east/west parabola control, except for the top & bottom edges of the picture, rather than the left & right edges...

Hope that helps, and remember, make notes of all your settings before making any changes!

Thanks a lot - Your drawings are very helpfull

I have a 32PW9528+DVE arriving within a few days, so I want to be prepared for the work ahead in case geometry ect. needs a twist.

I actually never owned a Philips TV before (always Sony models) but the last 3 weeks in shops + testing have convinced me to change side. I simply wasn't impressed by the lastest FQ85 model which appeared to have faults in the digital processing of the picture (quick movements made the picture appear torn for a split second).

With new Philips set comming out next month introducing Pixel+ v2 it might seem unwise to buy now, but I liked the set and the PQ.

But it require a quite good signal to shine - fortunately we have quite good digital broadcasts here in Denmark - but this requires a cablebox. Some shops used a crappy ariel which absolutely didn't made the set any justice.

These are the settings which seem to work best :

Contast : 55
Brightness : 35
Colour : 50
Sharpness : 2
Clolour Enhancement : Active
Tint : Cool
Digital Options : Movie Plus
Dynamic Contrast : Off
DNR : Off
Active Control : Off

Pehaps someone has better suggestions regarding the settings ?

Kim
