Sony 55A2000 switching itself off and on again

I've got a bit of a problem. My 55a2000 seems to like switching itself off occasionally, maybe for about 30 seconds (with blinking green light), and then comes back on again.

It had done this before, maybe only about 5 times in 3 years, but its now beiginning to do it about 5 times per night.

If I use power saving mode it happens less frequently, maybe once or twice a night, but I nearly always get flicker now on power save mode.

The bulb must be near 8k hours (getting the 'end of life message' on startup), but i'm just concerned something else may be the issue. I've spent a good amount of time researching (general kds models) via google on this issue and haven't noticed any definitive conclusion. Some folk suggest its the sign of a bulb going bad, others mention ballast board? And i've also seen the optical block mentioned (though my picture is otherwise great with no green blob symptoms).

Anyone got any ideas? I can't really afford to have an engineer look at it at the moment, and would hate to have to have to replace it with a lesser tv, so any thoughts much appreciated.

Since it happens less on powersave it might be a heat issue, worth checking all the vents are clear of dust etc and maybe giving it a clean out.

I believe there is a thermal protection system that will shut things down if it thinks it's getting to hot (to bad that doesn't seem to stop green blob developing).

I have actually seen a photo of the inside of one where the shadow of the bulb housing had been left in a partially melted scorch mark on ths insides.

Cheers for the reply. Heat was something I was wondering about, as although it could have been coincedence, the fault seemed to happen slightly more often when using the PS3(which is underneath the TV and venting into its airflow) as opposed to just watching TV.

I'll try and give it a good dust/clean and see if that helps.

Would be interested in hearing if you managed to get it fixed jeojadi, I'm still having the problem with power save off, but mostly fine (albeit with flickering)if I turn power save on.

I've got the same issue with mine - and like the above poster it only seems to happen whilst using the digital tuner. Solved that issue by unplugging the aerial to force the old dear to use Sky HD

If anyone comes up with a theory on this I'd love to hear it...
