Via the menu the picture can be altered i.e. things like brightness, contrast etc.

The manual states that "Brightness, colour and sharpness can only be altered if 'personal' mode is selected." Also it states that "Hue is only available for NTSC.."

However in personal 'sharpness' remains greyed out and unavailable and if I play a Region 1 NTSC DVD both sharpness and Hue remain unavailable.

Lastly 'Noise Reduction' is set to Auto but cannot be changed to Off.

Could someone with this TV tell me if it theirs is the same?

Hmm, I don't have this TV so i'm just second-guessing...

It could be that sharpness is a setting available only with non-RGB sources, i.e. RF, composite or S-Video.

Hue is meant to be available with NTSC sources, however it could be that your DVD player it outputting PAL 60 and not straight NTSC, hence the option is not available.

The NR issue, I can't even guess!

Hue will not function in a UK standard set, its only needed to correct NTSC broadcasts.
Sharpness and noise cancellation are grayed out with an RGB input.
You can leave NC in auto, the Sony system is one of the best and there's nothing to be gained by switching it off.
If you want to adjust sharpness while viewing an RGB source the trick is to select an analogue channel then select the sharpness adj and with it on screen change to the RGB source, the sharpness adj will remain active. Go easy with sharpness, a setting of no more than 20% is about right. The same trick works with NC if you want to try it.

I don't have an issue with the current settings - its just knowing how to . I must admit setting the picture to 'movie' mode gives me an absolutely superb picture
