JVC AV-32R57SK set-up for VCR and SKY

Just bought second hand JVC tv and now trying to sort out all the wiring and programming. Pretty sure my scarts are all connected correctly, but now am totally lost on the EXT settings. We have a Toshiba SD-16VBSB dvd/vcr player and a basic Sky box. Have done a "test" recording and ended up with a black and white image and no sound. Help!
