Sony KV-28DX30U - Blank screen

Hi

I was given this TV for my flat a while ago and it worked fine. The previous owner didnt mention problems, however after a while i began to notice sometimes it wouldnt display a picture when you turned it on (though the 'sound' that the tube makes when its on could be heard). eventually i figured if i leave it on standby and not unplugging it, it would usually work most of the time.

Recently i just bought a new TV and decided to shift this to my parents house. Since weighing a tonne and being awkward to carry it suffered a few knocks in the process of being carried out of the flat.

Im at my parents now and its been left in the spare room. Ive tried turning it on but the same old issue has come back. The tube fires up and it makes a click but there is no OSD or anything. Because its so big and heavy, my first idea is just to get rid of it by putting it on freecycle, however im at least interested to know what the problem is and how it could be fixed.

Thanks,

Will.

There are quite a few possible problems that will give you the symptoms you have. The main one i would guess is capacitor problems as you have mentioned that previously leaving it on standby solved the picture problem. As the set has not been used for some time as you have a new one it is the most likely cause. An engineer would be required.Look around and see if you can get a free estimate.Few and far between these days i know.
