EDIT I do of course mean a vertical line not horizontal duh...

Latest issue I have with my two and a half week old Panny TX32PS5 is I have noticed a thin black vertical line which runs down the screen about two inches in from the left.

It is flanked by two very faint white bands. It looks like some form of ghosting and shows up whilst watching terrestrial, satellite and DVDs. Only really noticeable when the screen is black.

I have plugged the tv into a different power socket but it doesn't make any difference. Any ideas???

Loads of Tv'S suffer from this sort of thing, mine has a darker on hardly noticable though,do a search on shadow mask this will find some threads and hopefully the answer to the question your'e asking

Looked closely at a 28" PS5 in Dixons today and that seemed alright.


Anyway, got an engineer coming out tomorrow.

The shop said if he can't fix it can be replaced but I'm paranoid about going to all this effort and getting another PS5 either with the same problem or worse.

I had 2 pannys with the same problem. Its a common fault. Seven tvs later including 2 other pannys and a tosh, I have a sony RP. No lines,shadows or anything. Great set

No lines on my TX32PS5 or in the one in the shop where I bought it.

I also have this problem on my 28TXPS1, though I find it completely unnoticeable except on very rare occasions (the default grey background when switching to an AV input when the device is yet to be turned on being one of them), and would probably rank it at worst about 6th on my list of annoyances with the TV, falling quite happily into the 'tolerable' category.

Very poor static geometry, significant variation in geometry dependent on brightness, noticeable misconvergence (particularly at edges), clearly audible low-pitched humming (through speakers and auxiliary outputs, so not just coil noise) when scenes contain a significant level of white, constant high-pitched buzzing particularly at 60Hz, plus possibly one or two more that temporarily escape me. Admittedly the last one or possibly two would probably be deemed 'features' rather than faults, but they're still both very irritating, and the second in particular is totally unacceptable - I'll arrange a replacement/repair/return when I can be bothered.

Still looks great though.

Wow! I'm not sure I'd be as well qualified to know if my TV had those sort of problems !

I also think there's a very faint white band down the middle of my screen which makes the picture look slightly dirty if there is a camera sweep.

I had a similar dark line on my TX32DT30. It seems to be a "feature" of Panasonic TVs, though one that they neither tell you about or want to admit to.

There's a Yahoo forum been set up for owners of TX28DT30, 32DT30, and similar televisions, where there have been a number of posts about the problem.

I have to say that it drove me nuts. I tried to convince myself that I could live with it, but once you notice something like that, it sticks out like a sore thumb. I also had a slight dirty screen effect, and green/pink tinting to the left and right edges of the screen.

After much discussion with the retailer, including recorded delivery letters and mention of the Sale of Goods Act, I've just taken delivery yesterday of a Sony KD32DX150 as a replacement. First impression - the picture is not quite as vibrant, but a total absence of any of the unwanted artefacts that were present on my Panny more than compensates for that in my opinion.

Well I've got a replacement TX32PS5 coming on Sunday so we'll see if that has the same problem.

Well, got a replacement PS5 yesterday and......... the line down the screen is there again, no better or worse than the last TV.

Screen still looks slightly dirty in the middle if camera pans across a white expanse.

Quite depressing really. If I hadn't seen the delivery people swap the TV's with my own eyes I'd swear it was eaxactly the same unit!

So... I'm just going to stick with this one. Too much hassle to keep getting replacements as it is obvioulsy an inherent flaw with this model and I suppose the fault is not so bad as to make viewing unacceptable.

How do companies get away with this shoddiness? The damn TV cost £850!!!

I have this set and luckily have no real problems, very faint line down the far left side of the screen, but hardly ever notice unless trying hard to look for it. Dolby digital not up to much i use a seperate system. i've looked at a few of these set's and never noticed a line down the middle of the screen only at the far left.
As for dirty screen affect, this seem's inherent in large screens, i have a 32" toshiba downstairs with the same dirty screen. Always noticable when picture is panning.

I have had 2 28PS12's with a lighter than the rest of the screen line down the centre, and they both emmitted high pitched noises that I was really suceptable to.

I then got a 32PS12 which does not have the line down the centre or the noise, it does however have a slightly darker than the rest of the picture about an inch from the left. However it is only really noticble 1% of the time and the picture is so damn good on the tv that for the £660 I paid for it including delivery I find it acceptable and really enjoy watching the TV.


Ohh yeah I had a Tosh 28ZD26 which also had a good picture but an annoying buzzing sound and the frame was damaged.

BY the time I got to my 32PS12 I was pretty cheesed off with this buying a new tv melarky and was so relieved when I found it to be a good one.


Keep sending em back until u are happy is what I say, never hesitate as you have 7 days (or is it 14) to return the set.
