no model setup ? on hitachi TV

A friend has a problem with his Hitachi C2874TN television after letting his children play with the remote control a message has appeared across the centre of the screen stating
"no model setup"
when changing channels it disappears for a split second only to reappear when the channel change is complete and it stays there all the time whilst viewing I think that it may be an engineers code? has anyone any ideas on how to get rid of this ? Hitachi have been contacted but after various calls have been no help (has any one got the technical advise help line number?)
