Sagem HD-D50G4 hum on power up - why?

My Sagem HD-D50 G4 has developed an odd problem - before, when I used to power it on it would flash an orange light, you'd hear a couple of weird noises then about 2 seconds of 50Hz hum then silence and a few seconds later the picture would come up - no problems. I changed the bulb earlier this year, and round about the same time it has started doing the following:-

Power on set - flash orange light as normal, then 50Hz hum starts but this goes on for ages, TV powers up and produces picture fine but hum continues, then it suddenly just stops. Aside from the 1 minute or so of hum on power up, set works absolutely fine.

Any ideas?

This happened to these sets seemingly at random from new. There was a an official fix, a rubber mount that went under the dlp chip i think. Some hereabouts reported success by adjusting the screws that hold the chip down. My tv does the same but not bad enough to bother.

Ah, this is not the standard Sagem hum - this only lasts for a minute or so and then it goes quiet. Any ideas?

Had always just assumed it was the normal hum on mine and thought myself lucky it went away. If not then perhaps somethings worked loose near to the bulb. Expansion from warming up might explain why it disappears after a small amount of time. I definitely have the same issue and its getting more annoying so I might have a look too.

On further inspection, I'm suspecting the wobulator because if I put it into standby as soon as it comes on (while it's still humming) the noise stops instantly - switch back on and the noise returns. Not too bothered at the moment as the noise only stays on for the first minute or so, but it's just a little annoying!

Hiya.. I'm having a similar HD D45 set I'm reconditioning at the moment. It's a 50hz-ish buzzing coming from the wobulator, but this is constantly on. Have slackened off the screws, which has had no effect. Placing pressure on one side of the device really mutes the humming sound, but doesn't eliminate it. Any people out there with an effective fix for this? Next step will be to extract the device, and place fibre washes below, and rubber grommets on top, but as I don't have any idea how the optical engine works with this device, I may muck up the alignment..

Any advice?

Cheers.

Just a quick update, problem was the wobulator, interesting little device. It's a flat lense on a solenoid that vibrates at about 50hz, which looks like it smooths out the picture before it goes though the final lense assembly. There are 4 screws holding it down, removing one of those at the back and slackening one of those on the side a little really mutes the sound. However, I stripped down the assembly, and used some teflon tape to line the inside of the solenoid assembly, and now it's completely silent.

The best way to do all this is probably to remove the front screen and TV hood, this gives you easy access to all of the optical engine. The HD D45 set is pretty easy to strip down and reassemble, compared to the older HTD 501s.
