Sony Bravia kdfe42a12u Cutting off Edges of PS3 Display

Hopefully the title conveys my problem well enough.

Anyway I've noticed that there is roughly a 1cm cut off around the entire edge of the screen. Never noticed it before until I downloaded a theme for the PS3 which has a big bold PS3 sign in the top left hand side, only half the letter P is missing. I've checked with other images and it does indeed cut off the edges of everything slightly. It's not too off putting but if I have an image that comes close to the edge of the page the TV cuts it a small amount.

I was just wondering whether there was some way to resize the screen a little using the service menu perhaps? I've tried fiddling with settings using the TV menu and the PS3, but there is not Horizontal/Vertical tweaking options on the PS3 and certainly none on the set, as far as I can tell.

Any in put would be appreciated.

Much obliged.

Overscan on RPTVs is normal just like it was on old CRT TVs.

Unfortunately it is usually a feature of the optics and cannot be adjusted (at least not physically). Some sets may have an image adjustment either in their normal or service menu settings but it is normally a digital scaling based adjustment, i.e. the picture is shrunk by being down scaled to reduce the overscan. On a native HD display this is not all that desirable as it prevents 1x1 pixel mapping, but I don't think your display is native HD (either 720 or 1080) so if getting the whole picture is of major importance adjusting things may be worthwhile, but I'm not sure if the option exists on your model and if it does it is almost certainly in the service menu with all the difficulties and perils that go with modifying such settings, assuming you can even find which and how.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I shall leave as is. Its of no real importance. I just thought that if it could be done then I'd give it a go. I'm due a new TV nxt year anyway so I'll wait it out and make sure to upgrade to a proper LCD tv.
