Sagem HD-D45 with Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-ray

I've had my Sagem HD-D45 for about 4 years and bought it based on some good reviews at that time and have been really happy with it and even now I look at some Plasmas/LCDs and still think mine looks better. But I've recently bought a Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu ray PLAYER again based on excellent reviews and yes it is a distinct improvement on my old standard dvd player, but when I walk by my local tv shop which has a demo of a blu ray player with a modern plasma/lcd screen, it looks nothing like that in terms of pin point sharpness. Do you think its a set up issue or is the Sagem now being out classed by current flat screen models. Any advice/ help appreciated.

Re: Sagem HD-D45 with Panasonic DMP-BD35 Blu-ray

The sagem is a 720 line tv whereas most modern sets now go up to a full 1080. I also find the anti glare coating gives a little distortion on fine detail but only when you are close up to the tv. On balance though I wouldn't swap mine for a newer model, I find something more natural about the colours. Also does a very good job with standard definition tv which many modern sets don't seem to do so well.

Demo vids are also normally set up to show TV's off at their best so you may not be comparing like with like. Might also be worth experimenting with the output from the blu-ray player. If you can set it to 720p output its worth a go in case the internal scaler in the player does a better job than the tv.
