blu ray on crt

Can you watch blu ray on a crt television ? Just wondering as I am thinking about getting a blu ray player but my sony crt has such a good picture I dont want to replace it at least until it goes wrong. I know you can watch dvd's on blu ray so am I right in thinking you can use blu ray with crt tv.

Re: blu ray on crt

It depends entirely on the inputs your TV has , you will need component or similar because blu ray players dont have scart in most cases. They usually have component , composite and HDMI.

Its largely a waste of time though , why get a blu ray player for a CRT ? You really need a HD screen to benefit from it.

I dont think theres any titles available on blu ray that are not available on DVD.

Re: blu ray on crt

Like the guy says, technically you could use bluray on your CRT, but again it most likely wont have a scart output, therefore no RGB picture and would look worse than your current set up.

You could get a HD CRT, there are a few excellent ones but probably hard to come by these days. Saying that tho, in this day if you are goling to replace your TV you might as well join the flock and get a flat panel.

Re: blu ray on crt

cheers guys, I thought it might not be viable. I will wait a while before going down the blu ray road, I don't want to get rid of my tv just for the sake of it, I've had my crt for 6 years now and it has such a good picture.

Cool Blue-ray

I've just got back from my sister's place having recently installed a Pioneer Kuro 50'' ($5,500) + Pioneer top of the range Blue-ray player.
After trying a few Blue-ray DVD's, after adjusting back to my smaller screen Panasonic and Phillips Crts, it still appears to me that the current top of the range Plasmas still aren't as good a picture as the top of the range Crt's built around 2003 imo.
The surround sound system with it's $2,500 Denon receiver and Mission speakers are a different story, although I'm not overly impressed with their subwoofer when playing music. Overall pretty awesome.

Accepting that they may (will) be hard to come by - what models are they please? The last one I heard about was the Samsung Slimfit, the "new improved" version of which failed to appear on the UK market.

The JVC HV36P38 is probably the best one on Europe, if you manage to find one, that is. It was officially a set that supported 1080i and won various awards.
