max pc resolution out of a FULL HD tv

Hi!!!! Im from another country (argentine) and I dont speak really well your language...

I bought this

32PFL5604/77 Philips LCD TV 32PFL5604 32" Full HD 1080p with Pixel Plus HD - Philips Support

Is Full HD but I cannot make it 1920 x 1080 using my pc (Im using dvi-hdmi converter from a gtx 285 wich is compatible)

Nvidia control panel shows me a max pc resolution of 1360 x 768 (I can add resolutions but they look awfull)
Also Nvidia shows me an HD resolution (not from pc) of 1080p native (and others) but if I select them it doesn´t look great, also the picture exceeds the tv screen.

The TV was set as native. But only looks well at 1360 x 768.

Help , I will be greatfull

Thanks

Plan B. I also have a Denon 1610. If I do this:

PC..(dvi-hdmi)...AVR...(hdmi)...TV

will it accept the full hd resolution?

Re: max pc resolution out of a FULL HD tv

It sounds like your PC video card only supports outputs up to 768 (not 1080) lines.

Your TV will scale this up to fill the screen.

If the screen is full of picture then you are lighting up all 1920x1080 pixels. You won't be able to get Full HD resolution unless you upgrade your PC (or its video card at least).

According to the UK spec, your screen supports all of these computer formats at 60Hz:

1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
1360 x 768 *
1600 x 1200
1920 x 1080

* The one you are using.

An impressive piece of kit !

I think that your problem is beyond me. I can only suggest that you get the latest drivers from :-

GeForce GTX 285

Oh, I notice that your TV only supports PC stuff at 60Hz. Ensure that you are not sending 50Hz signals from the PC.

Thanks! I´ve already solved this issue...

I connect my pc via DVI/HDMI to my Denon 1610 and then to the TV (all HDMI) and BINGO! 1080p without touching the signal... Tha image is sharp... I tested games like Call of Pripyat Full settings and is amazing!

thanks again...

dnguz2003, I know that you managed to get it working by passing the signal through your home theater, but did you try anything else besides this?

I also live in Argentina and I just saw and ad about this TV at a decent price and was thinking of buying it and I would only have HD content from my PC so this would be a decisive factor.

I know my video card can do 1920x1080 through HDMI, but I see that in the manual for the TV it says that the supported resolutions for PC are up to 1360x768 through HDMI while for video it supports 1080p at all refresh rates.

How is it possible that it supports this video mode only when the TV thinks the source is not a PC? It looks to me like passing the signal through the HT tricks the TV into thinking it is coming from a BD player or set top box rather than a PC. Is this something Philips did deliberately?

I know that there is some negotiation for allowed video modes between a display and a PC via HDMI/DVI. Is it possible to make a video card (ATI in my case) disregard the result of this negotiation and use the 1080p video mode anyway?

Thanks to everyone for any replies!
