3d lcd tv

During my recent visit to China I saw 3D TVs on display at Guangzhou airport baggage collection area. It was amazing to see adverts in 3D without glasses. There was no brand logo on it and no one could tell me what brand it was or if it is available to buy.

Any idea if it is going to be available soon for consumers? and who manufactures them?

Re: 3d lcd tv

Not familiar with how this might be done. You may like to listen to this months AV Forum Podcast which discusses the various proposals for 3D tv at some length. General agreement that you need a really big screen for it to be really effective. It's being pushed in the States using switching electronic glasses which alternately blank out left and right eyes. All sounds a bit clumsy to me. A lot depends on the availability of programme material. Not sure many families would tolerate having to wear glasses to watch TV.

he was actually talking about 3D TV that don't require glasses.

Phillips have been developing a Lenticular type of 3D TV that doesn't require glasses but the 3D field of vision is narrow and apparently it's not as great looking as shutter and polarised is. I'm sure they will develop this type of 3D further though, until one day we have 3D Holographic imagery.

Re: 3d lcd tv

The Philips approach works on a similar principle those postcards you used to see where if you move your head slightly the picture changes and things appear to move. Can't see how this is a practical proposition for tv. I guess you are right about the narrow field of vision.
