Decent 100Hz sets?

Hi

My Loewe Aconda has bitten the dust (line transformer failed), is uneconomic to repair, and funds are pretty tight currently.

I don't want HD yet, so I’m in market for a 32” CRT with a decent implementation of 100Hz processing. (I guess that budget LCDs & plasmas with SD aren't up to the Aconda standard yet, judging from the lack of replies to this question in the past?)

What are decent CRTs to look out for? I've no idea if 100Hz processing has improved much from when I got my Aconda (2000) - other sets were pretty dire then.
There are still a few sets on the bay but googling for reviews doesn’t turn up much – have they all been wiped as part of a cull??

Hi

what are the symptoms of your Aconda going?

mine is in the death throes but I do not think it is the transformer, the colour just goes wierd, does yours do that?

Cheers

Re: Decent 100Hz sets?

Loud buzzing whine then fizzing, blank screen, strong burning smell - switched off PDQ.
Local repair shop has seen a few of these apparently and the line tx is a known weak component of these sets (another thread on here even has a pic of a burnt out one!). Around £200 to fix ... :-(
It'll be hard taking it to the tip (sob).

Re: Decent 100Hz sets?

does not sound like my issue, no smell, all still works, just occasionally goes wierd on me. I think I will try contact cleaner on the connectors next.

whereabots are you, anywhere near Brum?

thinking if yours heading to the tip there may be a few circuit board I could maybe make use of.
