Loewe aconda on the blink

Apologies for my first thread being a request for help.

My Loewe Aconda has started to play up. The colour balance is not right, black appears as purple, whites have a yeelow tinge and are too bright. Now the set has sound but no picture, just a blue/purple screen (not the blue 'no signal' screen), sometimes on start up we have had a similar appearance but green. When the set is powered down there is a multicoloured spot in the centre of the screen that slowly disappears like sets did years ago.

Having turned it off and on a few times it is working normally.

Initially I was thinking tube, I suspect the green is not functioning consistantly, in which case it is not worth repairing, however I am begining to think that some component is overheating and causing this to happen, when left off for a while it returns to normal. After 40 mins or so it is back to it's normal crisp self.

So is it likely to be a simple circuit board or similar gone which should be an easy repair, or is it likely to be something far more serious?

Any ideas folks?

Re: Loewe aconda on the blink

I've had problems with dry joints in the past but this caused the set to turn off with a loud click.

This was fixed pretty cheaply.

Re: Loewe aconda on the blink

You could check for dry joints on the board that connects to the tube base.
If you're competent with electronics repairs.....
Disconnect from the mains overnight then try reflow soldering.

Chris Muriel, in Denver this week but normally...
