Question any ppl who had a philips pixel+ set which gave a pixelated "dirty picture"

my 32" philips pixel+ set has a "dirty screen".

this (pixilation) varies from program to program via sky RGB i.e. from ok to annoying to horrendous.

i've spoken to argos and they are going to send round an engineer, based on his report they will give me a refund in vouchers if it comes to the worst which is what im hoping for.

my question is:
when the engineer comes round to have a look at my tv, what can do to my set to show up the pixelation to its fullist extent???
i.e any setting that i should change?
(i will also show him the shocking picture difference with the pixel+ button on the remote)

at the end of the day i dont want them to repair the tv because i will have to lift it down the stairs as i have done with a previous set and my back nearly gave way. (dam 32" tv's weigh to much) also for £1000 i would seriously expect a tv to give a dam good picture but which is not the case with this philips.

I suspect what you're seeing is the "normal" digital compression artefacts present on all Sky channels to some degree - and enhanced (if that's the right word!) by Pixel+. Changing your TV won't fix this - it's a problem with Sky trying to cram too many channels into a single data-stream from the satellite

Choose a low bitrate channel like Bravo or UKDrama

well, the channels looked fine through my old sony 32" widescreen. but on this philips set u can tell the digital circuitry has made the picture worse!

Errrm - it has "enhanced" the level of detail you are able to perceive from your viewing position.

The fact that you can now clearly see artefacts of which you were, before, blissfully unaware, is not really a fault.

I had a P+ set for 11 months and the enhancement of perceived detail was very impressive - often to the point of making otherwise smooth complexioned people look like pox victims!! Once you get used to it, this extra detail is excellent - and can give a rather 3D feel (like the craters of the moon!) to otherwise flat pictures.

However, I sometimes wished it would have been possible to turn the P+ effect "down" a little - especially on low bitrate channels, because in addition to enhancing "real" detail, P+ also does a fine job of bringing out digital artefects. Some people get so upset with this that they switch off P+ altogether - but then why get a P+ set in the first place?

The PD30 I have now is less aggressive in this respect, so if you really can't live with it (I didn't find it too bad on high bitrate channels like Sky Movies) then you may prefer one of those.
