Soon to get a Tosh 42WH36. I am a bit concerned as to how child proof they are. I hace an active 1 year old who currently enjoys crawling up to my CRT tv, clambering up the front and smacking the screen.

How would a RPTV stand up to this? The front plastic on the Tosh seems a bit flimsy. Would being smacked by a 1 year old affect picture quality?

If this is a problem would anybody look after the baby for a while.............15-16 years should be about OK

I've had rattle's knocked against the one i use to own and hit by footballs.No problems at all.

I have the older tosh 40WH08B, which used the same from screen construction as the newer models.
Experience has been somewhat mixed.

1) The screen is slightly susceptible to scratching if hit relatively hard with blunt instruments (Wooden swords etc)

However these are relatively minor and only visible if you get right up to the screen (less then 6-7 inches) and inspect it carefully and have no impact on normal viewing.

2) Liquid is your enemy, as I found out when the 2 year old tried to help by cleaning the screen with spray on kitchen cleaner.
This did no do any hard to the surface of the screen.

BUT due to the layered sandwich construction of the screen, it did mean that the liquid that ran down to the bottom of the bezel was soaked up between the screen layers, total wrecking the screen. It had to be replaced completely, due to large areas of discolouration.

This could have been very expensive if the insurance had not covered accidental damage.

3) Sticky hand prints & chocolate especially really fluoresce on the screen but are easily removed with careful cleaning.
I use a Childs toothbrush (a message there somewhere) with mild soapy water and an absorbant cloth, being careful not the let the liquid run down the screen. This works extremely well.

Otherwise the screen had been very resilient to footballs and other impacts. It’s actually a lot sturdier than it first appears.

I had just that one major incident with house proud youngsters, which is not typical, so don't let that put you off.

Overall though would I still have gone for a Tosh RPTV, you bet.
I would not go back to anything smaller or a CRT but Possibly upgrade to a larger plasma.

If you take the plunge I'm certain that you would not regret it.
As with all high value electronics just be sensible.

As mseabroo has said,there are a few potential troubles with RPTV's and very small kids....luckily mine are bigger,but I've had to stop my son fiddling with the contrast and brightness a couple of times.

As to how tough they are.....generally well built,but I wouldn't chance the screen with a really determined toddler,but then that also applies to a plasma,and convential CRT TV's when the liquids start getting sloshed around.
