Anyone using a HDMI splitter before an AV receiver?

Hi,

I need to split the HDMI output of a skyHD box and send each output to 2 Onkyo AV receivers.

(so 1 x SKYHD box into 1 x 1:2 splitter into 2 x AV receivers each with a 1080p display)

Has anybody had any success using a HDMI splitter in this fashion?

If so, what make / model?

Thanks for your help

Dan

Re: Anyone using a HDMI splitter before an AV receiver?

Are you aware SKY HD is 2.0 LPCM over HDMI.

You will likely want to split the HDMI (Media Factory - Octava HDDA12-UK, 1x2 HDMI distribution amp.) plus split the Optical digital audio (CYP Europe - AU-D12 Digital Optical Audio Splitter) - assuming you will want 5.1 DD into the AV Amps.

Becoming quite a common combination for us to supply these days.

Re: Anyone using a HDMI splitter before an AV receiver?

Thanks for the reply Joe,

I should have said that I'd definitely like to send the HDMI video signal in to the AV receivers, so that they can switch between other source components and have just the one HDMI cable from AV amp to display.

I know there have been issues in the past doing this (using a hdmi splitter before an AV receiver) - something about handshaking and the 'repeater' bit - has this been resolved now?

Many thanks

Dan

Re: Anyone using a HDMI splitter before an AV receiver?

i split my sky hd output using a 1:2 splitter. one output goes to my denon 3808 which feeds my projector in the cinema room, the other output goes directly to toshiba in our living room, no issues using it at all...

Re: Anyone using a HDMI splitter before an AV receiver?

Hello Dan

It can still be a bit hit and miss when you have an AV Amp in the signal path - we have customers doing it all the time and mostly it works fine but not always.

As before with SKY HD if you want to have 5.1 DD into the AV Amps you also need to split and connect up the Optical output of the SKY HD box as SKY only do 2.0 LPCM 'Stereo' audio over HDMI.
