Picture tube is leaking‏

Hi there, I have a Samsung PCL5415R 54 inch projection TV. The tv stopped turning on a week ago so I called in a service tech to take a look. He told me that one of the picture tubes was leaking and to replace it would be a waste of time since it would overpower the other two picture tubes already in the TV. He recommended I trash the TV altogether. Is this a recommended solution or would you recommend I purchase a new board or replace the leaking tube?

Re: Picture tube is leaking‏

The TV is 7 years old cost me $2000 and replacing the tube would cost roughly $300 to fix. You still dont think it would be worth fixing for $300?

Re: Picture tube is leaking‏

The new tube will be brighter than other other older ones and so ideally you would replace them all at the same time. In any case, who is to say how long the other older tubes will last? They may all be imminent failures.

Instead of remembering how much the thing originally cost, perhaps you might be better able to value the set by how much a modern replacement of similar size will cost today.

I'd buy new if it were me.

There was someone in here selling a sony KDFE50A12U for £300 with a new bulb on here for £300, that would be a better investment surely.
