Problem with my Sony KDS-55a2000

Hello,

I am having a problem where I have a faint flickering in the back gound of my picture. The TV isn't flickering on and off but it seems like it's more in the background. Very obvious when light colors are on the TV. This started off happen sporadically but now it happens all the time and is super annoying.

I have reset the TV by holding the up on the controller and holding the power on the TV. I have unplugged it for 30 seconds. I have switched it from a surge protector to the wall outlet. Nothing seems to be working. The lamp is less that a year old. If anyone knows what is going on or has had this problem before please help. Thanks!

Is power save on/off, what setting do you have the iris on? Others have reported change of bulb has cured this type of issue.

I believe that my power save is on, I will have to check when I get home. The iris and all other settings are set to the default Sony set up which probably puts the iris at high. The bulb is less than a year old but it's a cheap one.

Re: Problem with my Sony KDS-55a2000

I have a similar problem from time to time. It comes and goes, and as you mention, is worse when there is a lot of bright content on the screen. This problem only started after my TV was returned after having the Optical Block replaced under warranty recently. I might call John Lewis again and get their repair agents to have another look at it.

I don't use power saving, but have switched it on and off, and tried every possible setting in the menu, but nothing gets rid of the flicker. Although, that said, I did accidentally leave Gamma switched to max while tinkering one day, and that seemed to make it much worse! Could just have been coincidence though.

My bulb is under a year old (I bought the whole XL5200 lamp unit from ebay last Nov) and the image is still very bright so I'm loathe to buy another one in case it's the TV at fault. As JL have repaired the set once already they may give up on it, and I may then end up with a new lamp unit and a credit note

Re: Problem with my Sony KDS-55a2000

I have never had my unit repaired and I am trying to avoid paying $$$ for a fix. I don't know if it's the bulb or what but it started out sporadic and now seems to happen everytime the tv is on. I got my bulb in Febuary from electrified.com and I emailed them to see if I still had an warranty left. Probably not . I don't want to have to buy a new bulb especially since I don't know if that will fix the issues. Have you done anything to try and fix this issue.

HELP!!!!!!

Have you turned power save off?

Switching power save on presumably under volts the bulb so it's dimmer. Others have posted in the past noticing flickering effects from this cured by turning power save off. Best guess is undervolting/dimming the bulb is causing the auto iris to be more active to try and increase brightness contrast to compensate, this will probably become more exagerated as the bulb ages and dims further, so switching power save off or changing the bulb should increase/restore the brightness so the auto iris doesn't have to work so hard trying to make up for it.

Also there are settings for iris control (which can be used to enhance black level) within the service menu. Pehaps these have either been altered by someone not knowing what they are doing or were set wrong day one. As the lamp has aged it has become prevelant.

My set still has this problem from time to time, although very rarely now. As mentioned, in my case it's nowt to do with power saving (I don't use it, but have tried it on and off) and it's nothing to do with the lamp either (happens with all the lamps/bulbs I have).

It's not a big deal to me, not big enough to risk the set getting written-off, but if it became more common/annoying I'd have to have a whinge to JL
