Still possible to buy a CRT?

I am looking to buy a 20-23" CRT with PAL and NTSC support (50/60Hz) and at least one RGB scart. I had a lovely Samsung SlimFit CRT that was perfect but regrettably sold it a while back.

The system will be used exclusively for Playstation 2 gaming as it looks horrible on my plasma.

A 4:3 aspect is preferred as most games of that era were not designed for widescreen.

My problem is nowhere seems to sell CRTs any more. This is of course understandable however there must be somewhere which has a few new systems still in storage that specialise in selling them?

Re: Still possible to buy a CRT?

i think retailers rather let them (new crt tele) all go in the past 2 or 3 years ago due to a lot of spaces they were taken in a warehouse and use those spaces to stock newer tele sets...profitwise.

i still remember having a 28 inch crt box nearly as huge as my 50 inch plasma.

but if you really after a new one why dont try fleabay. i'm pretty sure having seen an add or two of a new crt sets for that particular size in the past 2 or 3 weeks or so ago.

good luck mate

Re: Still possible to buy a CRT?

You're best off going down the eBay/second-hand route, where you'll be able to pick up a TV like that for next to nothing.

My local tip regularly has piles of old CRTs that people aren't able to (or can't be bothered to) sell.

Here's an example of a 25" 4:3 Panasonic Quintrix CRT that's currently going for £4.99 (not mine I promise - just using it as an example) :

Panasonic Quintrix 24" Television on eBay (end time 18-Oct-09 15:23:23 BST)

I had an identical set to this for 10 years and the picture quality was fantastic. I can't remember whether it meets all of your requirements, but I'm pretty sure it supported RGB/scart. The visible diagonal is around 23.5" IIRC.

Re: Still possible to buy a CRT?

Thanks mikej, unfortunately that TV is too far away. I am looking for something in the Hertfordshire area. I will keep my eye on eBay though
