JL's repair agent repaired mine a month or two back, it's now as good as new. Hopefully they'll do the same for yours.

Good luck!

The one at £2799? Their warranty is good, but not that good

I'd rather keep the Sony, myself

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

How much did you pay for it in the first place and how long have you had it? I recently installed a LG PQ3000 and I was quite impressed with the picture quality. Do you have any pictures of your green blob? Would be really handy to see with the issues I am having.

Also remember that 50 inch is quite a bit smaller than 55. Is the money back only to be used at there store. Strange how all these blobs have turned up yet it is not a problem in the Uk

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

I suggest you have a test of the G10 before you consider buying it - I saw one recently and I can't say I was that impressed with it (although I don't know if it was getting a HD or SD feed, and I suspect it was still in the 'out of the box' settings).
Have a look over at the plasma forum (Plasma Televisions - AVForums.com) as a few people have had issues with motion blur/juddering with this screen. It certainly seems that the V10 has a better picture than the G10, but I haven't seen one yet, although that will cost you between £1300-£1500 at the moment.
It will also depend on how much HD vs SD material you watch, as plasmas & LCDs don't always work well with SD material - especially some of the lower bitrate Freeview/Freesat channels.
When AndyCob got a 55" Sony LCD as a replacement for his KDS, he was not impressed with it's SD performance (KDS-55A2000 finally developing colour blob?), and that was £5000 at the time !

And remember, that a 50" is 5" smaller - which surprisingly can make quite a difference, depending on how far away you sit.

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

I would say that if you can get £800 to spend on any TV you like and you have had yours for 2.5 years then you have had a result, only £60 per year. Do you have photos of your blob/discolour?

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

When my set started going wonky, I shopped about a bit before I called JL to report the fault, just in case they wrote it off straight away and I needed to make a quick decision on a replacement.

After much shopping about, I realised that I wanted my SXRD back! The only sets I really liked were the Panasonic V10 and the Sony x4500. But both of those would have meant losing screen size, or paying a fair bit more cash. Also, when you're a member of a site like this, you're always aware of the negatives of prospective sets (v10 flicker, Sony clouding) so I wasn't really totally happy with either of them.

I was glad to get my 55A2000 back in the end

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

Has your set been picked up yet? The guys that repaired mine gave me a card with their details, so that I could call and chase it up.

Mine only took a week, from pick-up to return. They said it would be a few days if they could repair the OB or a week if they had to order a new one, and they were true to their word. I don't imagine yours should take any longer.

Enjoy it when you get it back, it's like having a new set again! I'm still thrilled with mine

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

Hi, do you not feel you are sitting on a timebomb? If the OB has not been redesigned then I think you may suffer again. Graham27 could you please post up a picture of your screen showng 40 or 50 IRE from DVE or Avia? My Tv has been getting progressively worse, I first noticed it around 6 months ago but had work committents that did not allow me to pursue. Wish I had put a test screen up when I first noticed it during normal viewing so I could see the effect getting worse

cheers

If it hasn't been redesigned, I think we will suffer again. I don't think there's any doubt. I have 3 years left on my warranty, so if and when it does go green again, no doubt it'll be written off by JL. I won't mind that to be honest, and I'll just put whatever contribution they gove me towards a panel of some sort. There might be one I'm happy with by that point!

I'm afraid I don't have either of those. Sorry! To be honest, I'm not too keen on looking for problems anyway. I will be keener nearer the end of my warranty If it would help your case in any way though, if you could link me to something suitable on the web, I'll post the results.

All I needed to display my blob was a grey 1920x1080 jpeg, created in Paint!

Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer, hopefully you should have some joy using the SoGA. I called Sony about mine, and they were surprisingly helpful, but thankfully JL sorted mine with no fuss anyway as it was under warranty.

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

Stange that you got a welcoming responce from Sony. They just wanted to point me in the direction of a repairer which I am not prepared to pay for. Will be getting my letters off soon. Really cannot see how they can worm out of it, just need as many people as I can to post if they have had blobs. I have 3 lamps here that I have purchased as I was told when I purchased it that the lamps are all that are required to bring the picture back to its former glory after 6k hours. Looks like I wont being using the lamps. I guess you guys are in a stronger position as you got an extended warranty, just make sure you find faults as the end of the warranty gets near, probably wont be that hard to find

I guess you're always better dealing with the retailer, as if you can prove you have a case, they have a responsibility to investigate. The manufacturer have no real obligation to do anything, so probably not too surprising that Sony weren't that helpful. Disappointing all the same, though!

I've actually just remembered that it wasn't green blob I spoke to Sony about, it was the lamp Mine didn't last even half of it's supposed lifespan, so I had a grump. They also referred me to a service centre, but only for inspection, rather than it automatically being chargeable. I didn't bother following it up in the end, as I moved outwith the UK for a bit, so I just bought a new lamp. But they were very helpful and apologetic.

Re: sony kds55a2000 green blob

Good to hear. When these TV's were sold they were sold that only a lamp change was required to return the set to as new condition. It appears that this was bad information at the POS as they actually ment optical block

Would you be able to post some pictures up? Also check that it is aligned properly keystone etc as it would be next to impossible to guarantee that it has been put back in exactly the same place. Hopefully the people who fitted it where aware of the phyical adjustment that is required?
