PC into Sony KDL40W5500 stutters watching films

I'm quite happy with my new Sony KDL40W5500 telly except that the main reason I bought it was to watch films from my PC.
When watching a film there is a stutter every 10 seconds or so. Not a terrible stutter, but enough to spoil the films it does it on.

If I plug the lead to the TV into a monitor it is perfect.
It can happen on blue rays, on mkv's, on avi's, divx's, any format. Some films are fine and some stutter.

Can anyone offer any help, please?

I've read about similar problems when the film is 24 fps and the telly can't cope with that, but being a decent current model Sony I assumed it would have that capability. I've looked through my films. though, and it looks like all the stuttery ones are in 23.976 fps. So if that is causing the problem, is there anything I can do to cure it?

At the moment the PC is connected to the TV from the DVI output into the VGA input on the TV. I have just ordered a DVI to HDMI lead to see if that helps at all.

Any advice would be much appreciated, I feel that I have just wasted my money on this TV.

I think you will find the problem lies with your PC rather than the TV. There's a hellava lot going on in a PC. Sometimes asking it to handle a high res video at the same time is asking too much. I gave up with mine, particularly showing HD movies.

I don't think its a PC problem as the films are fine when played on my monitor.
I think its an issue with the films being at 24fps and the telly being at 60hz.

I tried a program called Reclock. I used it to speed the films up to 30fps and there is no stutter at all. Unfortunately that makes the films run a bit too quickly so it still spoils them.

The resolution refresh rate support via the TV vga may be different to HDMI and not as good as the monitor support. Given those are all video feed resoltion refresh rates (don't worry about the 23... something, I believe as a legacy all the standards like 24 50 60 are actually rounded off for convenience and not in reality the exact whole number).

My bet is swapping to DVI to HDMI cable will fix your issues for TV display.

You were right, Andy.
I got a dvi to hdmi cable today and now I have extra options in Nvidia control panel. I now have multiple 1920x1080 options and one of them is 1920x1080x24hz.
Perfect picture now.

So, if anyone else has this problem when connected through the VGA input, I think the answer is to connect through HDMI before trying anything else.
