Question Using headphones & internal speakers at same time

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but:

A relative currently has a Sony CRT with Dolby built in. (approx 20 years old!) They are able to output sound from both the TV speakers AND headphones at the same time.

This means most of the family can watch TV with the sound from TV speakers at reasonable volume, and one elderly and almost deaf relative can wear the headphones and listen with the volume at full blast without disturbing everyone else (including neighbours)

Problem is the set is getting very flaky and needs replacing. Is there another TV that is able to support the same operation? All we have seen so far mute the TV speakers when connecting the headphones

Re: Using headphones & internal speakers at same time

Any Tv that has a audio out socket, as opposed to a 'headphone socket' could be linked to small amplifying device to power headphones. Alternatively Audio can easily be picked up from a standard SCART socket on any TV using an adaptor plug which costs a Pound or so. Again this can be sourced through a small headphone amp.

Might be a good idea to check out Infra-red linked headphones. There are loads of these on the market at all sorts of prices. Try looking for 'wireless' headphones with amplifiers. That way your relative will not have to sit a 'wires length' from the TV, but can sit anywhere in the room. The volume of the phones has no link to the levels coming through the loudspeaker.

(Strictly speaking this is not a High Definition Hardware problem. Should have gone in the headphones/headphone amps section)
