Re: Matrix 4x16 and HDMI splitter to Splitter ?

I guess a lot depends on your setup and the distances involved.

With an hdmi signal being digital then so long as the signal from one splitter reaches the next one in tact then there will be no loss in quality splitting it again.

In my own setup I have a cheap 4x2 matrix (4 in 2 out) with one of the outputs feeding another powered splitter via a 10m hdmi cable which then feeds a plasma and a projector with further 5m cables and there is no loss in quality.

Doing what you suggest however will obviously not get you a true 4x16 matrix, you won't be able to watch any of the receivers on any screen at any time independent of the others

Re: Matrix 4x16 and HDMI splitter to Splitter ?

4 sources to 16 displays is not too difficult, we have a source of hardware to do this no problem, also includes the infra red routing so you can control the sources independently and easily without the need for complcated set ups. Simple Harmoney remotes work fine with it.

I would also suggest that for this many displays you consider doing the distribution at Component rather than HDMI, makes life easier.....

A proper 4 * 16 matrix is not cheap, whats your budget like?

Dupe...

not so much, but I can stretch it if its a good solution, Is the signal the same using component as hdmi, will it be the same picture quality? how much does it cost just the matrix ?

Re: Matrix 4x16 and HDMI splitter to Splitter ?

The 'any source to any display' functionality of a Matrix can be difficult to replicate once you start to use Distribution amps (splitter's).

It is possible to cascade various HDMI switch, distribution and extender products - though you can and do (often) run into EDID and HDCP issues so pre test thoroughly before you deploy any HDMI system.

Analogue HD (Component) is less problematic (no EDID and HDCP issues to deal with) and can be every bit as good as digital HD (HDMI) - if you go analogue you may have to integrate some HDMI only devices into the signal path; this is possible.

How much is 'not so much'?
