Can running a bulb dead hurt TV

Hola, I bought a rear projection about 2 yrs ago, for the last 6 months its been warning me the lamp is going dead, running the tv until the bulb goes dead can´t hurt the TV in anyway right¿ Im pretty sure it can´t, and actually was positive it won´t until a friend told me that it can ruin it, which doesn´t seem to make much sense , so I´m asking

thanks in advanced

Re: Can running a bulb dead hurt TV

Sometimes a bulb fails by exploding sending bits of shattered glass around your tv's innards. The timer on bulb usage is designed to limit this possibility. You can wait until tv refuses to start to get the new bulb but then you'll be without tv while you source the new one. If you've been getting warnings for 6 months I doubt you have much time left anyway so I'd get and fit another one unless you plan on scrapping it.
