Can you switch to 50hz on ALL 100 hz tv's if required?.

I'm particularly considering the Sony KV28FX68 . I only want to use 100hz for dvd viewing as i consider the pic from sky & terrestrial to be poor with 100hz on.

If you can't, then it looks like i'll be going for the Panasonic tx28ps1 instead.

This is a big issue for me too as I watch a lot of sport and I've been told that footy is not good to watch on 100HZ

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately there are no tv's available that allow you to switch between 100hz and 50hz.

The closest you can get are the Sony sets that allow you to switch between DRC 50 and DRC 100, but even these apply processing to the 50hz mode, so it isn't the same as the picture on a pure 50hz set.

and its the processing thats the problem, not the 100/50Hz.. although to get 100Hz, inevitably you have to do some digital processing of sorts to get 100Hz..

Some manufacturers are much better then others... the Toshiba 100Hz always gets a good write up for football, and they do offer a purer 100Hz mode which removes most of the processing.. and is great for footie, indeed on the newer Active Vision series, there is now an 'ACTIVE' mode for sports.. although having watched loads of Footy on my 51" tosh, can confirm that all their 100Hz modes are great for football...

Perhaps you should go and demo the set, perhaps on a day when footie will be on Terrestrial?? and see for yourself...

I'll be watching footy on cable mainly. Does the same apply?

Looks as though i'll be getting the tx28ps1 then, as most of my dvd viewing is via my projector rather than the tv.

Oh well, at least its saved me about £150

Looks great (footy) on my Tosh RPTV (using NTL cable).

I couldn't agree more. Took me a few days to get used to my 100hz set, and a bit of fiddling. But once set up properly (mainly all the picture tweaks turned off ) the picture is stunning. Wouldn't go back now.

Paul , I watch a lot of football on my Sony FQ80 in either DRC50 or 100 modes and I get no major problems other than when the TV is receiving a poor broadcast (ITV Premiership sometimes).

I have had a Panasonic TX-W32D2 100Hz set now for four years and would not dream of going back to 50Hz - I know some of the latest sets with all sorts of picture tweaking going on inside can cause problems, but a straight 100Hz set if fine I reckon.

I've got a Panny TX28PL10 which has 100hz and have never really been happy with it.My parents have a Sony 28" 50hz set and every time I see that I wish I'd gone for 50hz.The colours look more natural,more natural movement and sharper picture,it just looks 'right'.

I bought a Loewe Aventos as I was under the impression (mainly by this forum) that it produced the best 100Hz picture...

Yeah, right.

I even had it replaced incase the original was faulty. No. Just the same. Appalling.

In the end, i'm glad that i went for the 50hz Panasonic instead. Cracking picture.

Panasonic TX28PS1 I know there's been some issues with geometry etc, but mine is as close to perfect as i could have hoped for.
