Questions about possible new CRT purchase

Good evening Gents, ladies, posters and search bots

I'm thinking of a new TV, but haven't got any interest in LCD or Plasma - yeah I'm old school

The current (ageing) Bush 28" Widescreen is mainly used, by her indoors, to view the usual mundane channels and a few of the Cable (VM) ones, plus occasional gaming with the PS2 and Wii.

Having looked at a few online shops I've come to the conclusion that selling a CRT TV is some kind of taboo, understandable I guess with the hype about the Digital Revolution

Does anyone know where I could purchase something like a 32" CRT (not Ebay thanks) ? Are they even made anymore, or have they finally gone the way of the Betamax ?

Alas you will be looking for something that is no longer made. Your best source of supply will be in the second hand market. Try your local 'freecycle' and you may get what you want for nothing. Try advertising locally. People are trying to get rid of them and your local tip will tell its own story. Many of the sets being thrown out are perfectly OK.

Thanks for the reply mike7, I guess it's all over for the good old CRT then

I did have a quick glance at the Freecycle thing last night, but you need to register with Yahoo ... and I have enough crap entering my 'inbox' already, so didn't bother

Unless something turns up before ours goes to Cathode Tube Heaven I guess it will have to be an LCD next, thankfully it seems there are many users here that can offer the best advice on setting one up for optimum viewing

I saw a 28" Sony Widescreen in a front garden last night with a sign saying 'Free - please take away'.
I wonder how long it will be there.

If (as it seems) the age of the CRT is over, the guy probably got up this morning to find the TV still there, but his plants, fence, and garden gnomes missing

I'm still looking on a casual basis, but becoming resigned to the fact that LCD will have to be the way I go.

She'd never believe me if I told her I was going out cruising at night on the lookout for a TV

I'd be all oer that like a Strong Moss if I had the space to keep a spare set.

One of the most awesomest TV's ever & absolutley stunning design.

Shame the 1 bed flat is tooo teeny...would make an awesome Retro gaming set

Wrong side of the country for me sorry, I've got a brother near Blackpool though so will give him a nudge. He's had an LCD for a year or so but I don't think he's too impressed. He might jump at the chance of a good CRT

He's in Spain for another week yet, so don't expect him over there this weekend

oh so you've finally noticed I'm here then Curly

had to let the penny farthing go, everywhere stopped selling 'proper' tyres and those new fangled pneumatic ones wouldn't fit

progress eh, when I were a lad, blah blah ... (old man indeed !! )
