Samsung 40ES8000 issues, so what to do? advice needed please

Hi,
Well after speaking to various sales people in John Lewis I decided to go for the Samsung ue40es8000, initially I was really impressed with the TV. Since then when watching it in different environments i.e. dark room, light room... the panel shows various light bleeds around all four edges, some bleed is stronger and it looks like lightning strikes. Also in dark scenes its like looking into the night sky and seeing dark clouds.
I was also told the BBC iPlayer is available for this, but after speaking to Samsung themselves they say its not yet ready and they dont know when it will be, so thats a massive negative for me.
The quality of the picture is amazing though in HD, and the 3D is great, although im not that bothered about 3D... but the edge thing is really off putting so I phoned JL to figure out my options:
1: Get an engineer out to repair it
2: Replace it for the same model to see if the issues go away (iPlayer wont be fixed obviously)
3: Get a kind of refund (JL voucher) to buy another one in the store, value is £1400

Just wondering, what should I do? any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have been looking at various other TV's at JL...
LG47LM670T Buy LG 47LM670T LED HD 1080p 3D Smart TV, 47 Inch with Freeview HD and 5x 3D Glasses online at JohnLewis.com
Sony Bravia KDL40HX853 Buy Sony Bravia KDL40HX853 LED HD 1080p 3D Smart TV, 40 Inch with Freeview HD online at JohnLewis.com
and the 46" version of the Sony KDL46HX853

Although I can't find any reviews of the Sony ones yet.

Thanks for reading this,
Chris

The Sony has BBC iplayer so that would be one problem solved,as for light bleed it may be better or possibly not.
You could try another samsung and again the light bleed could be better or worse.
Any reason for not including plasma on your list eg 42" Panasonic

Thanks Martin, I havent considered Plasma before, the only reason I went for an LED was because I owned an LCD before and was told the energy efficiency was better... although I didnt ask how better really (roughly looking at it... 50kw better?)
To be honest, I could consider a Plasma.. although with running the risk of starting a Plasma Vs. LED thread I'll review other threads... but if people want to throw plasma ideas at me as well that would also be appreciated, I've got £1400 to play with at JL so anything around that really.
Thanks again,
Chris

Only suggested plasma as light bleed sounds as if its a big problem for you and its not a problem on plasmas.
Both techs have their pros and cons its really down to you to decide which will suit your personal needs.

Or get a backlit LCD/LED to avoid most if not all of the screen uniformity issues.

Take the ES8000 back and get one of this years LED panasonics.

You really wont be disappointed.

I was in richer sounds yesterday and the had the 8000 on display and a VT50 yet everyone there was only interested in the panny LED.

I forgot the model and they are closed now, ill phone tomorrow an find out. It was £1400 and looked brilliant from about 8-10ft away. Really vibrant and light while crisp with deep blacks.

I was wanting the ES7000 myself until last month but the more i saw of the new ES range and everything Samsung has done this year they really do seem to have spent more effort on the gimmicks like voice and motion control than the screen. With only their plasmas being an exception.

With £1400 you could easily afford a great panasonic plasma or their led.

Sorry you suffered these issues =) weve all felt the bitter disappointment and paranoia of tv viewing.

They are all backlit.....buying a 3D TV or full HD screen for SD material will always dissapoint as 70% of the data doesnt exist and is created by a chip in the TV.

LED are thin, lightweight and lots of other things which have virtually no bearing on viewing quality, looking great with HD is easy look for TV that gives a watchable picture on SD sources E4 on freeview is the real acid test!

My experience of Samsung is excellent, but you can't take the experience of one person - or of two or of three - especially when one is a store salesman - as recommendation.
Check the specifications, compare them, compare their appearance if that matters to you, and, taking the prices into account, decide for yourself which is the best value.
