The best at the moment may be ...

" Pioneer KRL-37V
37" Full HD KURO LCD TV *FREE 3YR IN STORE G'TEE* "

Enlarge Image •Smart design
•Deep colour, Rich experience
•1080p HD Ready TV
•3x HDMI

0870 428 1450 Our Price
£849.00 Incl VAT
FREE DELIVERY "

Pioneer KRL-37V 37" Full HD KURO LCD TV FREE 3YR IN STORE G'TEE - Sound and Vision

But thats in terms of the picture quality, If you can get that model ... but the Pioneer situation is more than a little fraught and so you may well be better off with a Panasonic.

If you can manage a slightly larger TV then in my opinion you would be better off with a 42" Plasma TV ...

PANASONIC TXP42X10 at Richer Sounds - HI-FI Separates, Home Cinema, Speakers, MP3 DVD Portables, Plasma LCD, etc.

or the later 1080p TV ....

Richer Sounds - The UK's Hi-Fi, Home Cinema & Flat Panel Tv Specialists!

End of line remaindered at a bit under £800.

My guess is that the new line may well be at the same price level as the old soon after it's release in a month or three but for the moment ... a review ...

Panasonic TH42PZ85B Review – 42” 1080p Plasma HDTV

amd a user review from Amazon ... who advertise used and refurbished not new models at £715.

" After much agonizing I eventually opted for the Panasonic TH-42PZ85B. I had almost bought a Sony in their 3500 range but backed away when I saw the Freeview quality. My choice was driven by the fact that I use mainly Freeview at present and I must say the results from the Panasonic are better than I hoped for.
The set is well packed but will require two people to fix to separate stand. Be aware that the only cable supplied is the power cable. Remote control is well laid out with large buttons. The electronic guide is easy to navigate and has some welcome features such as allowing to focus on the days program list for a single channel.
I have connected via HDMI cable to a DVD player that can upscale and DVD replay is stunning. Watching sport is a joy because of the clarity even at high motion. I use the set on the normal setting with a slight tweek to brightness. Not even a hint of burn to date.
Only negative is the standby power consumption. So worth switching off when not in use.
I am looking forward to getting FreeSat and getting the very best from the set. "

Panasonic TH-42PZ85B - 42" Widescreen 1080p Full HD: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

I'd wait for the summer release of the new model Panasonics if I were in your situation.

Re: Best 37" under £900 ?

As I have pointed out several times before on this sub-forum the 37" Samsung and Sony models do not use the same S-PVA type panels as used in all other sizes of their LCD's 32" 40" and greater. Sony and Samsung have a joint venture factory in Korea to produce S-PVA panels.

The 37" Sony models use A-MVA panels from AUO Taiwan but I am not sure whether Samsung use these also or use LG S-IPS panels or Chinese CMO panels . The A-MVA panels are similar technology to the S-PVA panels but do not seem by report to perform as well

Panasonic use IPS-alpha panels in their 37" sets. I have a 37" Panasonic and it was definitely the best choice at the time I bought it a year ago. I have not yet seen the latest Panasonic 37" models but I have not yet seen another 37" LCD that compares to mine.

There is only the 37" V10 left to release now, which is the top of the range model with an RRP of £1249. There will then be no new models until March next year.

Ouch! That does rather limit the options doesn't it? The range of possibilities will open up if only Dirty Harry could include the next size range up in the 40 / 42" bracket .. very little choice at 37."

Panasonic tv's (in the UK) come with a 12 month guarantee. Certain independent stores are however running a 5 year Panasonic guarantee promotion.

I was also thinking this. This year's sony 37's appear to have much better contrast ratio's than last year's models. i can't seem to find a proper review of the sony 37's yet, whathifi are apparently doing a 37 inch super test in the next issue out in june. I know alot of people take their reviews with a pinch of salt, but it would be nice to hear some sort of review?

Reviews are Always useful as a Bench Mark. I have a collection of AV .. Hard Copy .. magazines in my Cargo Bay .. AKA Garage in my house extension ... which contain various reviews made in paper outside of the WEB.Those Magazines were courtesy of my little brother and ' What HI Fi Sound and Vision. ' Reviews can never do more than give you a guide of what you should look for in balance against your own tastes in Vision and Sound.

That June Review,as mentioned, will provide a useful guide to those of us who are Windows ( Microsoft tm ) Shopping for a new TV either on our own behalf OR, say, on the behalf of a Female friend who declares ' THATS ENORMOUS !! ' no, surely not what you think but rather of ones 60" Pioneer Kuro .. which is a teeny modest little thing really.

On Warranty's ... Richer Sounds and John Lewis do tend to chase each others tails for 5 year warranty's and each and either are worth the effort as against obscure Internet sites if only in terms of peace of mind.

The present economic situation has thrown all consumer AV developments into a state of Chaos and we just can't anticipate what will happen next in TV development or what the price of that development might be.

Is it because all TVs seems to get a 5 star rating? please elaborate of "pinch of salt"

personally i found the reviews in the site and HDTVorg to be the most indept helping to weith the pros and cons.

HDTVTest was recently accused of rehasshing an old review and just replacing the TV model number with the model number of the supposedly "new review"

Re: Best 37" under £900 ?

How about the Panasonic TX-P37X10B?
Its a plasma, but excellent for SD especially, but still good with HD

And also, like Alsina said, it comes with a Free 5 year warranty when you but from selected stores. (see panasonic's website for details)
