Bit of help please - Samsung LCD

I like the look of the Samsung LE40A656A. Below:

Amazon.co.uk: Samsung LE40A656A - 40" Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview: Electronics & Photo

That one is £750.

However I'm tempted to go for the Samsung LE40A558. Below:

Amazon.co.uk: Samsung LE40A558 P3 - 40'' Widescreen 1080P Full HD LCD TV - With Freeview: Electronics & Photo

That one is £560.

Can anyone help me out? I don't know an awful lot about TV's.

So what are the clear differences please?

Thanks mate, I'll take a look.

Just found it, but it is £700 whereas the LEA558 is only £559.

Looks arent everything

When your buying from Amazon, make sure you're buying from Amazon UK and not via Amazon Market Place.

PS: The V4000 sits between the the ones you've posted

Re: Bit of help please - Samsung LCD

If you want to know what the difference is between the A656 and the A558, take a look at the Samsung website and compare the specs.

The A656 has the following over the A558 though:

100hz processing technology
Higher contrast ratio (due to super clear panel)
4 x HDMI ports
Rose Black colour
DNIe Pro picture processing

The A686, has the same internals as the A656 but, is slightly different consmetically. I think it has the square base, as opposed to the A656's eliptical base...

If you consider a Sony though, the one to compare with the A656 is the W4500, not the V4000. The V4000 is comparable to the A558 though.

There are threads for all the panels mentioned on here so, go and have a look at them. You'll get all the info you need.

You may also want to shop around as, you can get the A656 from Dixons for £678 (Pixmania is even cheaper but, I don't think their customer service is very good...)
The A558 is available for around £545 from cheapelectricals too.

Paul

I know it's not alot but I also have £25 worth of vouchers for Amazon, so would knock a little bit more off.

Re: Bit of help please - Samsung LCD

It's always better to buy from places like Amazon and JL purely due to the excellent customer service

Re: Bit of help please - Samsung LCD

Hi mate, the first TV is better connected with 4HDMI's and has a higher contrast ratio - 50,000:1 vs 30,000:1, although real world contrast is probably nearer 2000:1. Basically a TV with a higher contrast ratio is better at producing deeper blacks, this (in theory) produces more natural overall colour replication.

It is not advertised on your link but it looks as though th TV is also 1080/24 capable.

Thats the basic differences, the LE40A656A may also have an upgraded processing engine but I dont know the TV personally so cannot comment. Why not look for an owners thread here?

What will you mainly use the TV for?

Good Luck

Dixons have good customer service and I've not heard anything to suggest Cheapelectricals don't have either....
It all depends if you want to pay over the odds or not!

With this in mind the extra features, (geared towards HD video) and cost don't really seem worthwhile IMO. I'd go for the 558 and save the money... Just my opinion mind...

If you plan to keep the TV for a number of years and may upgrade to Blu-Ray then the extra money spent on the LE40A656A may be worthwhile....

Good Luck

As the OP has a Blu-Ray player anyway, the step to more HD content will be the cost of a Blu-Ray movie. With that and the extra features/ better spec in mind, the A656 is probably the better bet...
