New LCD Tv or Sony KDL32S253

The wife is about to move out and take one of my TV's with her (Sony KDL 32S253) which I will need to replace.

Should I let her take the Sony (only a year old) and get a replacement (under £400 budget as in dining room) or buy her one for her new house, and keep the Sony.

The Sony to buy new is more that my budget to replace, but does that mean it is a better TV ?

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

TV only used as a 2nd TV, watching freeview.

Re: New LCD Tv or Sony KDL32S253

Thanks for your comments guys.

Decided to get a new TV, just need to work out which is best for freeview, as will not have a SKY or HD feed, just plain old Freeview.

Have read in a number of magazines that most TV's are optomised for HD, but struggle with Freeview, the picture quality drops.

Any suggestions, lets say upto £500 budget ? The LG's (32L6000 or 32PG6000) get good write ups, and comments?

Re: New LCD Tv or Sony KDL32S253

I've just got myself a panasonic TX-32LXD80 for £430 and it's excellent for SD, as well as Blu Ray and ps3 games.

You can also get the next model up - TX-32LXD85 for £474... it has a slightly higher contrast ratio and 100hz tech,

they're definitely better than the LG's you mention

Re: New LCD Tv or Sony KDL32S253

Cheers for the advice, other posts on this forum also seem to back up the fact that the Panasonic TX Plasma screens are really good at SD, better than the LCD versions.

Looks like I have weekend ahead trying to find the best price Panasonic PX32 or 37 I can afford.

Anyone know of any current deals, do let me know.

Cheers

Re: New LCD Tv or Sony KDL32S253

Hi

the models I mentioned previously are LCD's, mate

TX/LZ is LCD and TH/PX is plasma...

So TX-32LXD80 - LCD
TH-37PX80 - Plasma

The best deal I've found on the TH-37PX80 is £489 from digital direct, this includes a free three year warranty.

If you wanted it from a high street store hyou could get Richer Sounds to match the above deal - £489 for the TV, you'd then pay 10% of the TV's price for a 5 year warranty, so an extra £48.90.

£527.90 with 5 year warranty

Re: New LCD Tv or Sony KDL32S253

Thanks Daggy, lesson in what the Panasonic codes means will help.

Gonna go to RS in Leeds tomorrow and see what they have in store, and try and price match from there.

Strangely enough digital direct seem to think the TV is 1080i, isn't it actually just HD rather than full HD ? Maybe they should check their website adverts (being a bit anal I have piinted the error out to then.

Anyway, thanks, now happy to get TH-37PX80B.

Ma
