Are plasma black levels still the best like they were 5 years ago?

Question Are plasma black levels still the best like they were 5 years ago?

We bought a £1,000 42" a few years ago and decided to go with plasma over LCD due to the superior black levels.

Regarding black levels, have TFT/LCD TVs caught up? What about LED TVs? (ones around the £1000 mark)

Let's assume we want a new 42"+ TV now with a £1000 budget. Would plasma still be the way to go?

Some LCDs can go darker but they aren't uniform and the black level tends to raise if any bright details are displayed. For you budget its plasma alllll the way.

Have a look at both, I swapped from a 50" plasmas to a 55" LED, would never go back to plasma now.

Agree best to demo both. Purely on black level as this is the topic why would you not go back to plasma? or was it other reasons?

I watch a lot of sport, particularly football, LCD just seemed more vibrant, I bought my Samsung 55D800 in May 2011, I did have a look at the Panasonic VT50
but I preferred the Samsung, I'm more than happy with my purchase. I did wonder if I'd prefer to watch the Olympics on the big screen (projector) however I never turned it on once, the 3D ( which was spectacular) and PIP won hands down on the LCD
