Would You Purchase A TV Without Any Warranty?

Would you ever purchase a new TV without any kind of warranty? Apart from the standard returns window you get.

Just wondering...

For me, yes. I think everything I have bought hasn't had a special one, unless it came free and I sort of had no choice.

The Sale of Goods Acts give you a lot more than that.

A manufacturer should always be able to guarantee that anything they make will last for AT LEAST 12 months under normal use, regardless of what the law says. If I drop a grand on an electrical item then I expect to get 4-5 years out of it. It blows my mind that people spend thousands on expensive electrical items that only have a 1 year warranty. No warranty at all (besides being illegal) would be ridiculous. Apple are more guilty then any other manufacturer - happy to charge you £1700 for a laptop but a 2 year warranty extension will cost you £300 more. They obviously have very little confidence in their build quality. What would no warranty say about a manufacturers confidence in their build quality?

They are under no obligation to provide a one year warranty. SOGA gives you up to 6 years protection depending on the type of item. This is with your retailer who in the first 6 months must prove there was no fault before purchase, after 6months you must prove fault by getting an engineers report. The retailer has the right to attempt repair but if the issue remains they must replace like for like or refund the item. There's more to it but that's the gist of it.

I didn't know that, I always thought SOGA gave you a year. Regardless of SOGA, the point I was getting at is that if the manufacturer can't guarantee that something will last a year then they can't have much confidence in its quality.
