samsung D6100 or D5520

hi,

basically, i've been to currys, intentionally looking for the Samsung D5520 (UE40D5520).

but, compared to the D6100, the D6100 has way better picture quality.

the problem is, is the D6100 good for gaming? whats the input lag?

i've heard that the D5520 has input lag of 32ms, which is quite high, but no one has found any issues while gaming with this input lag.
its also good for gaming i hear. that was my intention to go for this.

the D6100 has 3D, which i might barely use, as i dont have any 3D films.

my needs:
- used for gaming (Xbox 360), films and ocassional music
- Budget £500 ( but the D6100 is £600, i can squeeze in that £100..considering its better)

so which should i go for?

thanks

If it has Smart TV, you don't need any 3D films - the Samsung application providea a lot of free 3D material.

oh, i see, thats good to hear

but im more concerned about the gaming side of this.
the input lag for the D6110 is at most my main problem, as i will be gaming with this TV.

since ive been to the store, i know what kind of image quality il be expecting, which is pretty decent actually.

If lag is your biggest concern, look at the Panasonic 42" plasmas

ok i've been to the 2 stores, talked to 2 people and hears the result:

Person 1
- pick panasonic its better for gaming. as its got better darker colours, compared to the samsungs.
- LED is cheap, and too bright. also hurts your eyes if looking at it too long.
- he also games, and owns a panasonic.
-

Person 2
- pick the Samsung D6100
- although panasonic (S30B) has 600mhz, which is better in gaming (and sports), the samsung is better for home TV (great at everything...gaming and films)
- also 3D, has alot of features
- plasma requires you to change the tube yearly (forgot what the tube was called)
- panasonic is £500, D6100 is £600. spend the extra £100 for samsung as it has more features.

now, can anyone guide me in the right direction in whos telling me the truth?

He was kidding I hope!! Did you go to Currys perchance?

One thing to note, the Samsung 6 series does not do 3D in full HD Important UE40D6530 3D information!

It's ages since TVs had tubes, and nothing needs changing yearly - he was either a joker or a fool.
The one with with the cheap excessively bright and painful LEDs wasn't much better - it's nonsense.
Going back to the beginning, in what way was one Sammy's picture quality "way better" than the other?
With digital TVs they should all be the same, so maybe the store had changed settings on one.
3D and Smart TV are standard, and I'd simply choose the TV that was best designed imho, and had the best price.
It doesn't have to be a hard process.

As vickster says have a read, it explains a lot. Ive just gone from a Panasonic GT30 to a Samsung D6900, gaming feels better on the D6900 likely the lower lag but the sets brighter too. Plasmas need nothing replacing lol I cant believe some of the rot these people spread. Your best asking about sets in stores like Sound and vision, Richer sounds and independents(basically specialist stores).

thanks for all the replys,

read the thread, seems like it relates to all series 6 TVs (from what i understood)
im not too worried about the 3D, since i will probably not use it much.
just heard that the 6 series has crosstalk issues, which i dont know wth that is, but something to do with 3D

the second thread? i couldn't find, or not sure which sticky you mean =/

the reason for thinking to go for the D6100 is because its better than the D5520, considering it has 100Mhz refresh rate and 200Hz of clear motion , and therefore it may do better in gaming. (cannot find this info online though, but seen this at the store).

i dont think there are any speciallist stores around my area.

i know that the panasonic out performs these (now) since its got 600Mhz , and input lag of 16ms , but they definitely look ugly, and im not sure it id like one in my house.

does anyone know any panasonics? that don't look as ugly as the S30B?
should i just go with the D6100?
or choose something else?

If you like it most, get the Samsung, just don't look for issues and don't read any threads about it

its just that, have i made the right decision on planning to get the D6100 (from currys)?

also, could i return it if i don't like it/suit my needs (e.g. when gaming it may lag)?

Currys are less agreeable unless there is a fault (i.e. not gaming lag) - buy from Amazon or John Lewis if likely to want to return (but may cost more)

Get the Panasonic G30 50", £549 in Currys etc. Really low input lag. I'll be buying it as soon as I've tried price matching at my local Panasonic store for the free Panasonic 5 year warranty.

If your biggest concern is getting a stylish tv then wait til the Samsung D7000 goes down in price or save up for it. Additionally you could buy one of the new batch of TVs coming out this year, most of them will be good looking by the looks of it. I know what you're saying, Panasonic do need to get a grip where design is concerned when you compare them to Samsung's futuristic designs but it's clear that they focus on doing what matters, ie providing a quality picture, that's what a TV is for at the end of the day. There are better looking TVs out there than the G30, but you can't have it all for your budget and it looks alright to me. It has every feature under the sun apart from 3D and you get a massive screen and low lag, it's a bargain really.

But it just depends on what you want, only you can decide that. There are certainly plenty of options out there, it's mind boggling at times wading through them all! Pretty sure the best picture you could get for your budget would be in the form of the ST30 or the G30 though. If anyone disagrees then please let me know before I waste my money!

lol, will do

i want a stylish TV and performs good too. but now, im not even sure what to even do.
i guess im just gonna wait till you get yours and tell me how its like.
make a video on youtube or somthing lol, so i can see how gaming is like on it.

and btw how long does a flat screen TV last these days?
because i got a cousin, whose had many problems with there LG 50" TV and now its just died out after like 3 years.

pfffffft I'm gonna wait til you get yours! Btw you can check out the owners threads for whichever tv you fancy, look in the LED and Plasma forums, you'll find them there.

It could be worth seeing what price the new Panasonics (and other brands) 2012 TVs are as they are all alot better looking. The replacemet set for the ST30 has a better PQ, built in wireless, DLNA, and looks miles better. Although it will obviously be a bit more expensive.

Your TV should last you at least 5 years or you can get a replacement under the sales of goods act, although if it's not under warranty it'd be a big hassle to get.

haha! pfft well u got what u wanted!!!

i have decided, gonna probably go with the D6100, coz its better than the D5520 (not becuase it has 3D) but because it has much better processing power than the D5520.

panasonics? meh im not gonna even bother, they look ugly, end of story, LOL

reason I made this decision because, I don't think il notice much input lag when playing. all this research just gets into my head, i'm just thinking too much.
the downside of this, is that il probably have to buy new speakers, due to the low and crappy audio samsung has implemented. (which i read somewhere)

a friend has a Hitachi LCD TV from Sainsbury's, which plays Xbox and watches movies exceptionally well. so i dont see why im so fussy about the options i have.. lol

so yh, probably get this today

HELL YH! a new TV!?!?!

by the way, does anyoone know where Robert Whyte Ltd is? they do a better deal, much more cheaper and 5 years warranty,

im based in kingston, any ideas? searched all over the web, nothing found

nvm found it, wow, in glasgow. god, why so far !?!?!

Robert Whyte are in Glasgow...is the warranty only in store - doesn't say so? Charge £27 for delivery, and offer good service (my TV came from there)

Ask John Lewis to match them perhaps, or Richer Sounds - will include the delivery cost though? Both are in Kingston

he said cheswick or something =/

could i do this over the phone? and probably get it delivered

Chiswick not very far at all from Kingston. Get train from Kingston to Twickenham and then to Chiswick I think, taxi home with TV. May even be a bus

Welcome to Richer Sounds London Chiswick
... Home Delivery:
Our store also has an excellent working relationship with one of the local taxi firms who are directly opposite and other special rates for all our customers at competitive prices or one of staff will help you to the taxi rank.

Or you can call them, pay for delivery Richer Sounds - The UK's Hi-Fi, Home Cinema & Flat Panel TV Specialists!

thanks alot for this information,

however, i've just phoned up Robert Whytes Ltd, and they said they could deliver this TV to my house by next tuesday,

also, Robert Whytes Ltd has a better deal:
-TV
-2 pair of 3D glasses
-5 years Warranty
-£626.98

whereas Richer Sounds:
-TV
-5 Years Warranty
-£615.90 EXCL. delivery (not sure what delivery cost is, plus, getting taxi will cost more right?)

so, basically, what i need to know is does Robert Whytes Ltd provide better services? in regards to returning the TV, if theres a fault (e.g. backlight bleed, clouding..etc)
becuase they are based in Glasgow, which is...QUITE far, and they said il have to delivery back the TV if any problems, and also contact samsung about for fixing.

looks quite a hassle, but im not sure.
which is better to go for?
RicherSounds or Robert Whytes Ltd?

Wow 22 pairs of glasses, helluva deal! I'd go for that one!

Good job you don't care about 3D, it's crap on that set, don't think it even displays it in 1080p. Good set otherwise though, let us know what you think of it!

lol, my bad, i mistyped, i've changed it

anyways, was that sarcasm when u said 'Wow 22 pairs of glasses' , because theres no way a store would give out 22 pairs

but yh, the 3D is crap on the 6 Series, it does not display full 3D and also has crosstalk (whatever that is). so, that really is a useless feature.

but i decided on this because of the processing. that it would do ok in games and 1080P films.

i thought it'll be fine, considering the 200HzCMR and 100Hz.
