I will be using it for football matches, films, general and x box 360, so i am pretty much screwed i was hoping for 37 to 42 inch

Thanks, i have just been to currys an the man says avoid plasma at all costs if i am using xbox 360 as screens burn out, is this totally true

not really, but it is safer to stick to LCD for games and computer usage

it depends, there is no siomple answer for this.
i should say do some resersh and make the desizion your self.

Assuming you don't play xBox for hours and hours on end and have static images on screen for long period, for sport and SD I would go for plasma (Panasonic plasmas are more resistant to image retention than LG or Samsung models).

I have a Panasonic plasma (never seen IR) and a Sony LCD and the plasma picture is much better for sport and I like the smoothness and softness (both run from a Virgin feed- proper multiroom). BR very good on the plasma too

If you are worried however, go for LCD, but ignore the BS from Currys and see for yourself in an indy AV shop and make your own mind up. LG and Toshiba seem to offer better value for money on LCD than Samsung, Sony and Panasonic for the bigger screens, but you need to decide what you want. If you do watch sport however, try to get 100hz but on a model where you can turn it off when gaming etc (you can on most).
