A bit of URGENT advice please as I am keen to buy a TV this Saturday morning. Would like a 42" TV as sitting about 6 ft away. Everywhere I read, I read a conflicting review. Main use is SD but would like to occasionally watch a BlueRay and will subscribe to Virgin HD. Occasional gamer.

Will you be using the freesat on the 7700? I believe the set itself has a similar spec to the 4000 (which is missing from your list). Obviously it all depends on what price you can get each set for but that seems like a good price for the 7700. The only other set you should consider would be the range topping 7000 if you were gonna use the extra features like bluetooth etc.

SD on a 42" at 6ft will be poor surely? That's more the distance for HD content

For your uses I would go with the Panasonic X10 plasma, given the minimal HD use (and blu-ray still good on the plasma).

How can LH7000 be range topping if it is only a 50 Hz screen? The numbers don't make much sense to me. If I will not be using freesat - is the LF7700 still a good TV? I don't want a 720 set as I would still like to have the option of watching the benefit of full HD.

Finally what about the Panny 42 plasma G10 as a contender for the above mentioned sets?

LG 42LH7000 - £697.69

Given the price you have for the 7700, I'd go for that unless you can get the 7000 cheaper

Only blu-ray and some games are 1080p (Virgin/Sky HD 1080i)

Well if you aren't using freesat then I'd be looking to buy the LH7000 for only £50 more. You can check the specs on LG's website but it's a superior panel to the 7700. The 5000 is 200Hz isn't the 7000 the same?
