Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

I'm trying to decide on a wall mount for my Panasonic 42" plasma (TH42PZ81), but can't decide between a range from cheap to dear options, all of which seem to fit the bill technically.

I'll be mounting into a solid brick wall in an alcove to the right of a chimney breast. So I'll need an articulating arm that will swing out and tilt for viewing, while folding back relatively flush to the alcove back wall for parking. The mount will be invisible when parked, and not particularly obvious when in the viewing position. The TV fits into the alcove width with a couple of inches to spare. The alcove is about 12 inches deep.

I'm new to this area so read this forum and checked out some of the mounts on offer from tvfixings.co.uk. They were very helpful, but I'm still confused as to which is better.

I can see why the expensive Vogel EFW 6345 (£185.94) might be a better choice for aesthetic reasons, especially if the screen was on a long wall and the mount was visible both in retracted and expanded positions.

The 'no-name' SL 5010 B (£83.14) seems attractive as does the Premier Mounts AM250 (£112.50), which from the photo seems to be built like a tank.

I'm attaching a PDF showing the three brackets.

Anyone have any experience of the relative merits of these brackets, or any other advice?

Thanks.

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Hi

Clearly there are so many choices, and you can easily end up spending hundreds of pounds on a bracket..

As the bracket is to behind the tv, the focus is the tv, on the extendable and even flat ones we can see the side profile - but it is more about personal preference in the way they look.

We have stuck to the products which work well for us, our clients and particularly installers, they are tried and tested and always have good feedback daily. The price is competitive and quality is high.

Sure it can be a tough decision, hope this helps!

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

For any articulated bracket, especially for a plasma, I simply wouldn't skimp on the budget. I want the reassurance that my screen will stay up and not sag.

Have a look at M-Forms brackets. Cheaper than the Vogel but excellent quality. Great communication from the company too. I went for the MF-3250AB mount for my 37" Panasonic but it is rated for screens up to 50". Mine pulls out and swivels only but you can also specify a tilt option.

The Dekomounts look good too and they are a forum Assured Advertiser (as are M-Form).

I doubt the £30 Screwfix bracket mentioned is articulated.

Sorry no it is not articulated but its def worth a mention when places like your local electrical dealer's are asking £140 for the same flat on wall product product! and if you use enough anchor bolts its going nowhere!

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Hi

We have this bracket as an alternative; M-Form - 32" to 50" Articulated Universal LCD/Plasma Bracke which has a double arm arrangement meaning it's much sturdier than the single arm brackets, reducing any sag.

Extension is 576mm and flat to wall is 100mm, the bracket can be supplied with tilt at no extra cost (just add a note at checkout if you go ahead).

All our brackets benefit from Free Delivery and our unique G-Fit Guarantee.

Do they still do that one?

I'm after a support for a Pioneer 50"MXE1. I don't think I need the best make because I'm not after a swivel model (where strength is really needed). I might like a tilt option, not sure. I can see Screwfix have one with tilt for £58.71 and one without for £39.14.

Triggaaar

Here's our alternatives to the Screwfix brackets;

Flat; M-Form - 32" to 50" Universal LCD/Plasma Bracket
Tilt; M-Form - 32" to 50" Tilting Universal LCD/Plasma Bracket

Both are rated to 75Kgs and are GS/TUV tested.

Both prices are delivered so bare that in mind when comparing with the Screwfix ones. You also benefit from our unique G-Fit Guarantee.

Ive just checked Autumn 2008 caterloge price for vivanco fixed arm up to 100kg up to 63" £39.99. Or tilt arm version £59.99.

Looks like im not the only one who clocked it was cheap! for the prices to have gone up

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Thanks to everyone who replied. I've really learned a lot in the process.

The 'M-Form' 3250 AB looks like a good bet. And I like the fact that, even though the bracket is not going to be in a high-visibility location, it's black and decent looking.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely I'll be able to avail of the 'free delivery' option - I'm in Dublin, Ireland

Good choice. It's a tank of a bracket - a two man job to put up. Rock solid and absolutely no sag when extended. I presume you're getting the 6-pack of Fischer bolts recommended by M-Form? If so, you'll need some washers as these are not provided.

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Hi

Pipkato, Let me know your postal code at info@m-formonline.co.uk and I'll get a shipping quote for you. I'll see how it comes out and maybe give you a little discount to soften the blow!

Scatterbug, thanks for the mini-review. It's difficult to get the quality of these brackets across on a web page so customer feedback really helps. Sorry you didn't get any washers with your fixings though, you should have done... I'll go and hit someone with a stick for that right now!

Best Regards

Hi Graham. Washers were included in the (comprehensive) fixings pack to attach the bracket to the screen. I needed to add washers for the main wall bolts. As these were third-party (Fischer) I wasn't really expecting any to be included.

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Thanks for that offer Graham.

Thanks Scatterbug, too, for that very useful review and the mounting advice. The house is pretty old (more than 125 yrs) so I hope the third-party Fischer bolts you mentioned will be suitable for the solid brick wall.

Graham - I'm in Dublin, Ireland, so no postcodes here I'm afraid.

I'll drop you an email with my address and see what you can do about shipping.

However, in general my experience with UK shipping quotes to Ireland (apart from Royal Mail) is that the charges are little short of amazing. They're usually close to double what I pay to have a local courier collect and deliver overnight to my door.

But fingers crossed!

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Hi

The bracket will fit your TV no problem.

If you're ok to wait a couple of days I'll check when back in the office what deal we did for Pipkato and send you the details. Always happy to help out our Irish cousins, seems like you have a bit of a rubbish deal when trying to get hold of this sort of stuff.

Send your address details to info@m-formonline.co.uk and I'll look right into it.

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Hi

Our flush mount bracket will fit the Panasonic, fixing points on this TV are 660 x 320.

Cable access is always tricky. We try to design the brackets to be as slim as possible but the TVs don't always complement this with their connector panel designs.

Our fixing kit in the bracket includes some spacers which can be used to give you extra room for troublesome connectors. This would abviously increase the depth of the bracket but it would have to do that anyway as the connectors would just hit the wall. If you found you needed more space then we can send you alternative spacers or adapters to either give you more room or to shift the bracket arms left or right away from the connector in question.

All of this is covered as standard as part of our G-Fit Guarantee.

Hope this helps.

Great. Which ones would you recommend for me then. Would like to have a look at a rigid and fixed option. I have looked on your site and think I know which ones you mean, but thought better to check straight in with the experts

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Just wanted to add my thanks. Got my bracket up on the wall in no time looks great.

Didn't end up using the bolts sent as they were near enough as long as my wall is wide. So nipped down to B&Q got about 13 screws holding the bugger up on the wall so it's not going anywhere.

Very easy to install and loads of space for all my connectors for my Panasonic which is something I was worried about.

Just got to chase out the wall to run all the cables in now and I'm sorted.

I have fitted quite a few of these brackets and while they may seem expensive they are the dogs wotsits. Big advantage of the articulated version is being able to get behind the screen to make the connections, get to the plugs, assuming you have located them discreetly behind the panel, and if you do see the bracket from the side its beautifully made with none of the rough finish and arbitrary bits of metal that litter so many of the cheap units.

In the end you get what you pay for.

Re: Budget or Expensive bracket for Panasonic plasma?

Hi

What TV is it for? For an oustide wall you should be ok with normal solid-wall plugs and screws. Go for something 5mm diameter and minimum 65mm long and you'll be fine. Remember to use ALL the available fixing points on the bracket. For a sturdier solution if you're not sure then you could use large frame fixings like these; M-Form - FISCHER FUR 10x100 Solid Wall Fixings 10 Pack or similar.
