Fixing Bracet To Chimney Breast Issue's...

Afternoon guys.

I'm currently trying to fix my TV bracket to the chimney breast. But when drilling into the wall, once i get past the plaster i hit something very hard. I have titanium drill bits but even they will do go through the wall. As far as i can see (in the hole) it looks like brick due to a pink dust.

I've tried to use smaller drill bits to pilot hole but they snapped.

Someone told me that an SDS drill will be able to make the holes. If so cool, as Mr Sky man is coming tomorrow and he will have one.
If not. what would you guys recomend to get the bracket on the wall?

cheers

Paul

Are you using a cordless or corded drill? I have to ask the next question so please don't take offence. Have you set the drill to the hammer setting?

its a corded drill with speed and hammer settings, have used it on all the settings and nothing. Just spoke with my neighbour and he says to try and "punch" a starter hole in the hard part of the wall with something. Will give that a go.

Hi paulmdenton,

If you have titanium bits they are not masonary bits they are wood / metal bits and will not go through masonry.
Get a masonry bit and it will work great, corded or cordless as long as its 18V doesn't matter. Hammer action on the drill unless you are using special masonry bits that you do not need to use hammer. SDS is usually a more powerful drill with a clutch normally, and has a different chuck for SDS bits but can be converted to normal chuck for normal bits.
Hopefully you read this before Mr sky man comes just say you haven't got a masonry bit and can he drill the holes for you dont say what you have been doing. He will laugh.

One of my companies we use this stuff everyday.

Hope this helps.

Its up. Woohoo.

Borrowed my bosses SDS drill. i had masonary bits and they didn't go through the wall. My neighbour told me that the chimney breasts where metal lined.

It was brick and my drill is usless against hard brick.

Anyway. Thanks for the help

Paul
