Gregory Peck actor real nice guy and a gent has died at home. He was one of the last few truly greats which we probably never see the likes of again. He must be in at least one everyone’s favourite films.
I will never forget his interview on Wogan I hope they show it again.
He was only voted last week the top hero of the screen as Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mocking Bird, which he deservedly won an Oscar for best actor back in 1962.

Although played the good guy, playing the villain was not beyond his mean as in The Boys From Brazil.
For a full list of his films go to http://us.imdb.com/Name?Peck,%20Gregory

Bit of a belated one this as I have just read it in July issye of Film magazine....and I quote straight from the magazine...
"Michale Jeter, 1952 - 2003. The name may mean little, but the face means much: a distinctive charasmatic character actor, Michael Jeter was a distinguished stage a screen thespian.
Most recently seen in UK cinemas as the stand out turn in ensembel comedy
Welcome to Collinwood , he made his film debut in Milos Formans Hair(1979) . Alternating theatre works with TV and movies, he won a Tony for his performance as a fatally ill clerk in the Broadway musica Grand Hotel and an emmy for his work on Burt Reynolds sitcom Evening Shade . He was also a regular on Sesame Street.
On the big screen, his notable performances included playing a flamboyant, homeless drag queen in Terry Gilliams The Fisher King and a mouse loving prisoner in The Green Mile. At the time of his death on March 30, the 50 year old tennessee native was working with Tom Hanks on Robert Zemeckis' childrens flick The Polar Express. He died at his home from unspecified natural causes. He was HIV positive and had worked on behalf of the charity AIDS project Los Angelas for more than 10 years".

A very under rated and under used actor IMO...

Katharine Hepburn An other truly all-time great actress has died age 96

She died of natural causes but had been suffering from Parkinson’s dieses for a number of years. She had a film career of over 70 years manly played women with intense personalities.
She was nominated 12 times for an Oscar and was the winner 4. Her wins were Morning Glory 1933, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner 1967, Lion in Winter 1969 and On Golden Pond in 1982. She was also the winner of numerous other awards such as, BAFTA’s, the Cannes Film Festival award for best actress, Emmey’s, Golden Globe Award. I could go on for ever there are that many more.
Unfortunately she did not win an award for my favourite film that she stared in, although nominated which was The African Queen 1952

Katharine was the partner for 27 years of an other screen legend Spencer Tracy, with whom she co-stared with in 9 films which the first one with him was in Woman of the Year in 1942, an their last one together was Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, in1967 shortly before he died. The couple never married as he never divorced his first wife.

For a list of her appearances please go to http://us.imdb.com/Name?Hepburn,+Katharine

Herbie Mann Jazz flautist has dies age 73. 6years ago he had been diagnosed with inoperable prostrate cancer. Herbie’s real name Hebert Jay Solomon He was the pioneer who brought the flute as a main instrument in this music style, he also was an innovator who fused different styles of music with jazz such as African, Brazilian Disco, Rock, Reggae etc.(I’m just listening to his 1975 LP Discotheque which is a jazz, disco, funk fusion).
The hit he had with Hijack was recently sampled for the Jennifer Lopez hit ‘Jenny from the Block’.
His first instrument was the saxophone but in an overcrowded market he decided to create virtually an un-tapped area of specialisation on the flute.

Born 16.4.1930 Brooklyn, New York, USA : Dies 2.7.2003 Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.

Buddy Ebsen actor also singer and dancer has died.
Buddy Ebsen was born Christian Rudolph Ebsen, Jr. was born to Danish-German and Latvian extraction.
He originally was studying to become a medic but left to try his hand at dancing and joined Ziegfield as a song and dance man. Later on he went to Hollywood with his sister and they made ther debue in the film Brodway Melody in 1933. He was 6 foot 3 inches tall, and was originally chose to play the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz but had to quite the role as he was allergic to the costume.
In the fifties he moved into TV and stared in a couple of TV series. But he is manly known for his role as Jed Clampett they head of the family in The Beverley Hillbillies which was about some Hillbillies coming in to a fortune when oil is found on there property, then moving to Beverly Hills and being totally out of there depth which led to allsorts of funny mistakes. The highly successful series ran from 1962-1971.
He then when on to star in Barnaby Jones in the title role which ran from 1973-1980 in which he played an aging detective who came out of retirement when his son was killed. To me this was one of the best detective series which he combined detective work with forensics, with a bit of home spun philosophy and glasses of milk. It also stared the lovely Lee Merewether as his daughter-in-law and had a cracking score by Jerry Goldsmith. (Come on BBC snap it up fore the afternoon detective spot). He reprieved the role as a cameo in the movie The Beverley Hillbillies in 1993. He also appeared in Matt Houston as Roy Houston from 1984-1985.
For a more complete list of his roles go here http://us.imdb.com/Name?Ebsen,+Buddy

He also late in life turned his hand to painting as a successful business and also wrote a novel Kelly’s Quest which became a best seller.

He seemed a very nice person and is an actor I will personally miss.

Born 2.4.1908 Belleville, Illinois, USA: Died 6.7.2003 Torrance Memorial Medical Centre, Torrance, Calafornia USA

Alexander Walker, Evening Standard film critic, aged 73. I disagreed with most of his opinions, but he wrote a fine book about Peter Sellers (maybe a touch sycophantic). He was respected by some.

Director John Schlesinger - 1926-2003

The AP is reporting that director John Schlesinger has passed away at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California. Mr. Schlesinger was 77. Schlesinger was born in 1926 and spent the early part of his career as a bit actor. He then made a successful move behind the lens, becoming one of the "angry young men" associated with the Kitchen Sink school of British filmmaking, along with Karel Reisz and Tony Richardson. Schlesinger crafted the well-received Billy Liar, Darling, and Far from the Madding Crowd before making the film that brought him to prominence in America, Midnight Cowboy. Cowboy, which was nominated for seven Academy AwardsR, remains the only X-rated film to win the Oscar for Best Picture; it also garnered Schlesinger the Best Director Nod, as well as Best Adapted Screenplay for Waldo Salt. Schlesinger never equaled the critical and popular success of Cowboy though he continued to make quality films over the years such as the violent thriller Marathon Man, the creepy suspense/horror film The Believers and the sublime satire Cold Comfort Farm. Schlesinger had suffered a debilitating heart attack in 2000 which led to declining health. He was removed from life support yesterday (Thursday, 7/24). Schlesinger lived the last 30 years in Palm Springs with his companion, photographer Michael Childers.

Please share your comments and remembrances of John Schlesinger on our
