I will be spending a few days there. Any recommendations on things to see?

The National Museum of Scotland has opened its doors again after a multi million pound refurbishment and is well worth a visit (especially if the weather is as bad as it's been!).

National Portrait Gallery and Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art are both worth seeking out.

You could go for a tour at the Scottish Parliament and see the monstrosity for yourself!

You could also get a tour bus to where I live (South Queensferry) and take a boat tour on the Forth. It will give you a chance to see the Forth Bridge in all it's glory after its 7 year paint job! Looks magnificent!

The camera obscura is worth a look if you like optical illusions and the like, the zoo can be a little windy and lots of hills, when we last went the penguin parade was off. The botanic gardens are worth a visit on a nice day.
Mary kings close was a bit americanised but very cool seeing an actual street under the street.

Glenkinchie distillery if you like whisky
Arthur's Seat and the Crags
Roslyn Chapel if you're into Masonic stuff and/or the da Vinci Code

The Witchery on the High St used to be one of the best. I'm sure a local will be able to comment on here about it.
The top floor of Harvey Nichols has what's meant to be a good place to eat and great views too.

Yeah the witchery by the castle looks nice and the secret garden which is the same place. We've stayed at the hotel a couple of times and it was great but not eaten their as it was a little too posh for my taste and they were fully booked.

Mussle and steak bar down the grass market is great for a meal, the steak is cooked to perfection and baileys cheese cake is amazing, it's not a fancy up market place but certainly one to visit if you like your steak or sea food..
