New York Map

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good old fashioned map and guide of New York?
Hoping to go to New York this year with my girlfriend!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

This one is pretty good
Amazon.co.uk: pocket rough guide new york
or this (which has a good street map and tube map).

Buy New York, AA CityPack from the name you can trust

we had a normal guide book with a small map in it and google maps over our hotels wifi. the city is so simply laid out in a grid that most things are dead easy to find and you'll probably find you don't need a map to rely upon. Not essentially answering the question but personally if you are planning on sticking to manhattan i wouldn't spend too much on a map, one in a guide book would probably suffice

Thanks for the advise. I did just get a little cheap handbook with a map in the end, it's pretty good and only cost a couple of quid. I will just leave it at that then. I agree with what you are saying, it looks pretty easy to navigate, we will just be staying in the Manhattan area.

Thanks again.

No worries, the thing to remember is avenues run north/south and streets east/west, generally most addresses seem to say which intersection they are near so its just a case of remembering coordinates. The main exception is Broadway, that runs diagonally across from south east to the north West.

Its really useful and makes the city easy to navigate, it makes up for the complete lack of landmarks to guide you, everything is built high so it really is all like canyons and despite the empire state building being significantly taller than most other buildings you still can't see it easily once a few blocks away so aiming for something you can see is nigh on impossible to do

I would recommend the time out guide as far as finding places to visit.
As for a map, take a look at a pop-up map.
I've used them for several different cities, including New York, and always been pleased with them.
