Hi guys,

I'm looking to book a holiday cottage over xmas for myself and my wife in Scotland.

Anyone have any suggestions of places they've stayed?

As long as it's rural and without any other houses close by, I'm quite easy about the area.

Well I suppose it depends how much you want to spend but I stayed here - Otterburn Cottage - Self catering holiday cottage accommodation, Breakish, Isle of Skye for a week in summer last year and it was very nice, near skye. There are a few houses around but I didn't actually see anybody while I was there (apart from when I went to skye and other local towns). It's literally on the edge of the loch (duich), the only thing between the cottage and the loch is the little road

Anyway, that was nice, but there will be more rural

Its my home area and although it is a fair trek from Yorkshire if you want remote its worth thinking about. In winter the weather is pretty severe but spectacular at the same time. Plus the locals are pretty friendly and welcoming. The local community website is one of the best in Britian and can give you a lot more info than me, I have been out of the area for years .. I've stopped at about 40 of the Landmark Trust properties over the last 20 years. Most are quite/very remote, all are self catering. They suite people who like to cook and just want to get away from it all for a few days or a week. Nobody to do with the organisation will bother you during your stay.
