Who has a caravan

No pikey jokes please

Heres my retreat, its on a lovely quiet park. Its got double glazing and central heating. All the mod cons.I know alot of people would turn there nose up but caravans have come along way since i last stayed in one as a kid.Alot of people live full time on this park.Im seriously considering it myself.I'll post some pics of the inside if i dont get to much grief from being called old or a pikey

Re: Who has a caravan

My folks have one sitting outside the front of my house.

My every attempt at them to sell the thing seems to fall on deaf ears I'm not even sure why they have it as they have never even gone caraving in it after 6 months of owning it

Re: Who has a caravan

We stay in static Caravans at least twice a year and completely agree with the OP, they are a great holiday home from home, better than other self service accommodation we've tried in the past.

We've looked into buying, but have been put off by site fee's and other costs.

Stayed in one three times this year including a week in August. If you're prepared to rent it out, August rental alone can pay an entire years fees/bills.

I'd like to get one but haven't the dosh at the mo..

ps3mad - where is your one situated & how far from home it is?

Re: Who has a caravan

I would love one of these.

Just perfect for me and my family.

Stayed in a few statics, and can agree they are superb these days.

We've also looked into buying, but had a few money hassles of late. Definatley looking at getting one in the next few years.

I have a two bedroom one that is very similar to yours.

Mine is near Hastings and has a sea view, it is the one thing that keeps me sane by enabling me to get away from London when ever I like.

Re: Who has a caravan

I had my first ever Chavavan holiday this year due to having a newborn and have to say it was great. All the mod cons - central heating, hot showers, tv etc but non of this breakfast is served between 7.30 and 9.00 rubbish which for all of us with kids is a twitch inducing stress we can well do without.

We went to north west Wales. The park we were on was by the sea. Had a swimming pool and entertainment complex, mini golf, bike hire etc. I'm an absolute convert.

I even found out it was ok to drive the car on the beach! Can't wait to return with number one son and the car in a couple of years time . Didn't meet many locals though, only scousers. It must have been a quiet week in Liverpool 'cos they we're all in North Wales on their jollidays!

As everything in my life is nearly av-centric, we have found a site in Grantown on Spey that has free wifi and Sky TV with the premier pitches! The warden gives you a Sky SD box and directs you to a dish along the row of pitches, the dish has an octo LNB with large coils of coax, simply unroll the coax, stick through the window, plug in, swap the viewing card with the one from home, switch the tv on and
voila!

Not me, but my parents have a static home in a quiet caravan park just outside of Lincoln. It's nice to have a weekend break now and again, it's so peaceful and relaxing.

Re: Who has a caravan

Static caravans are ok by me. But living in a rural area with a lot of visiting tourists I can sick to death of following towed caravans on our little A roads every time theres a bit of sun!

Re: Who has a caravan

Mines in a little village just outside clacton on sea.The site only closes for 6 weeks ayear. The site has rules which i agree with.No dogs,no cars(theres a carpark with security) and best of all no renting, which means you dont have a bunch of chavs turning up every weekend with screaming brats.I looked at alot of parks before choosing this one.The ground rent on most was very high,5000+
My rent is just under 3000 a year and that includes water, council tax and all maintance. The only over charge is gas(in bottles)50 quid and lasts months, and a yearly leccy bill.I fitted a dish and have freesat but would get the full sky if i moved in full time.

Re: Who has a caravan

No wonder you're considering moving in, ps3mad, with your bleedin neighbours! My sisters mother-in-law lives on a static caravan site and when its closed she goes on holiday for 2 weeks, stays with my sis for 2 weeks and then with another relation for 2 weeks.

You could then rent out your house to some of the people off of the Jeremy Vile show who will give your neighbours a run for their money!

Re: Who has a caravan

Nice decking there OP. I'm looking at replacing my decking at home, looked at a product called Timbertech. Expensive but no staining, maintenance etc as it's a composite material. Also comes with a 25 year guarantee. Has anyone had any experience of it?

Ahhh, caravans! We have our own park in Saundersfoot with 170 of 'em!. They have certainly come on a lot in recent years, anyone wanna buy one?

Was talking to one of the blokes that live on site.He says he goes on holiday for the 6 weeks when the park is closed,he's off to the caribbean next time.Good idea about the tennents in the house, but i think i would sell up and spend the rest of my days just lounging about on my decking .

I know the seawick place. Not sure how long ago you went there, but its now a massive park full of waterslides and aimed firmly at family holidays. The complete oppersite to my site. The sun also uses seawick for its cheap 9.50 holidays, apparently it get full of chavs just there for the booze up A bloke on my site said its the talk of the town as there was a number of stabbings there this year. Not the friendly family holiday you would want!
PS: i'll have alook for that beach lol.

Yeh lol, imagine my surprise a couple of weeks after being there, when watching britains toughest beaches (of something to that effect) seawick and clacton came high up

Difference for me was I was there from monday to friday, as opposed to friday to sunday. It was very quiet while I was there.

Re: Who has a caravan

Spent many happy years at White Cross Bay in Windermere as a kid - firstly in a touring caravan, then my parents bought a static.

Used to go most weekends. Took a look around the site back in March this year - all the statics have gone and have been replaced with chalets....

It also seemed much smaller. Never revisit childhood memories!

Re: Who has a caravan

As with most things the Americans do take 'caravaning' to the next level: Keystone Sydney | Home

The alternative over here is a big RV towing a car/truck for use when the RV is 'pitched'. I've seen them towing everything to smallish cars through to big trucks (Ford/Dodge pickups) with a golf buggy on the back of the truck!!!

I've got an Honda Element (only available in US) and I've seen a big RV towing an Element which was loaded up with a pair of Kayaks on the roof and a pair of bikes on the back....
