So is Alien definitely being released nationwide then, and not just in London?

Saw the trailer for Alien today (before Kill Bill). Remarkable how clean and fresh it looked. Amazingly good on a big screen. Never seen it like that before.

I understood it would be a 'limited release' (whatever that means), basically to hype the upcoming DVD boxset. However, it seems to be pretty much everywhere.

I have never seen on the big screen so it should be great. Even though I have seen the extra scenes before.....

My local Odeon aren't showing it, so I have to travel a bit to watch it.

Gonna have to watch it early too as I've got a party to rush back to on Friday Night.

I think what they have done is just to restore the deleted scenes off of the previous DVD/Laserdisc release.
From what I remember do these scenes not spoil James Cameron's concept of a Queen Alien?

erm no not really it's all rather ambigious. As is much of Alien.

It was great to see it on the big screen but I do not think the additional scenes added too much Infact they unnecessarily slowed the pace of the film down in places.

Not all the deleted scenes on the dvd made it to this cut however

I really enjoyed the director's cut, especially the Alien hanging on the swinging chains, also the little trims here and there really moved the pace up.

Apart from a couple next to me talking all the way through and a guy in front of me with massive hair it was one of my favourite film experiences at the flicks

Sorry bobbles I didn't make myslef very clear, I didn't mean it as a question, it is a theory... In the original story by Dan O'Bannon there was no plan to make an "Alien Queen". The life cycle went like this: once a mature alien cocoons a victim (as the mature Alien did to Dallas and Brett) the cocconed victim would turn into an egg (this is how Giger originally designed it too). Thus there is no need for an Alien Queen as created by James Cameron. The fact that those scenes were cut meant that Cameron could go ahead and create the concept of a Queen Alien who lays the eggs. But now if those cocoon scenes are restored it makes rather a mockery of the Aliens storyline...
Personally I prefer the Queen thoery.

I knew what you meant Lex but the extra scenes do not implicitly imply that the bodies were being turned into eggs. They were stuck to the wall this could have been for a numerous alien type reasons. Decorative purposes etc

They could have easily justified the scene with aliens as the aliens did stick people to the walls for the eggs. The queen theory does make a lot more sense

what I am unsure about is was the planet the home of the aliens or were they being transported to another planet in the ship they originally found.

It was odd that the eggs were under the ship in a cave

And what kind of alien was the fella driving the ship the cinema did clearly show he was massive.
