Master Series Tennis. Why not in HD?

As a tennis fan i enjoyed last weeks Rome Masters. Picture qaulity was ok i guess, but i've noticed Eurosport is showing the womans event (same stadium) in HD, and the PQ is fantastic.
Why can't Sky give more Master series tennis in HD.

I don't think it's up to Sky, it's whatever the local crew have used to film the event that dictates the feed.
Sky will obviously show HD where they can, but some crews just don't use the technology.

Its down to Skys lack of HD studios. only 2 years until the new studios arrive.

Re: Master Series Tennis. Why not in HD?

I've posted a few times on this subject and as Tennis is one of those sports which really looks good in HD, a detailed sport in some stunning venues, it baffles me why Sky haven't delivered us HD coverage.

For a couple of years now the local camera crews have captured in HD, so there must be feeds available to Sky? They managed it for the US Open last year?

Eurosport's HD Tennis coverage has been of really good quality and of course Wimbledon has at times been reference quality live HD.

The good news is that the BBC will broadcast Queens in HD this year, a welcome addition - but not the French Open (which we will have to rely on Eurosport for).

I have emailed Sky for a timescale for bringing us The Masters Series in HD but have never had a reply.

Sky also have the rights to the season ending masters at the O2 Arena, as that is a UK event I wonder whether we'll get that in HD?

I have noticed that Sky have started using the mainstream sport channels for their tennis coverage lately, which when watched on SSHD1/2/3 is better than it used to be on SSX.

Masters Tennis in HD will come dont worry. We just have to wait 2 years for the new HD studios to be completed.

why should new hd studios matter if some events such as the slams are available in hd they are just transmiting the feed from the host broadcaster which sky appears to do. take the paris masters this week i have no doubt the host broadcaster is broadcasting in hd but yet we are still only getting sd transmission

Nobody else appears to have it in HD.

last year the masters final at the 02 was the only masters series event in HD.

If there is any studio presentation and that studio is only SD equipped, then the whole broadcast will be in SD, regardless of whether the feed is available in HD.

The same reason why Match of the Day is in SD.

Maybe in 2011 we'll finally get full time HD tennis, the following is an extract from an ATP press release from yesterday.

"Fans will enjoy nearly 45,000 hours of ATP World Tour coverage in more than 180 countries through the newly completed broadcast agreements for ATP World Tour Masters 1000 and 500 events.* All ATP World Tour Masters 1000s will be broadcast globally in HD for the first time in 2011."

So now it's down to Sky - will they, won't they?
