quantum leap in HD on sci-fi

its not the best HD you will ever see but its great for any fans out there not sure when it started in HD but the 2 part leap home was the first one i had come across the difference between the shots in the titles and the episode were clear things like the floor and cornfields were very detailed
i know it was shown on universal HD in the states but cant find any other info on it

It must have been filmed then rather than made on/or edited on NTSC video.

if you have the new sky planner set to "highlight shows in HD" it denotes which shows on sci fi are broadcast in HD the majority arent but some are i thought it was a mistake at first but then remembered the US HD screenings as i said before its not the greatest HD you will ever see but i love it there are lots of old shows from the states remastered into HD that look great, just a shame we will probably never see them over here

FX HD is driving me mad at the moment. Everything in the planbner shows as HD, when clearly it aint. How the hell are we suppose to know when somethings going to be shown in HD??

A show like JAG is 10 years old and shot on film and scanned to produce a HD master for broadcast, yes it wasn't made with HD in mind but it is native HD.
NCIS, Regenesis and Listener were all made in HD and Family Guy was HD from season7(?) onwards.

Obviously as we've covered before there is a huge range in PQ with native HD material, sad as it is HD is simply a question of resolution.

But most of the episodes shown of Family guy are not series 7 and are clearly not HD. Every show in the EPG for FX is now showing as HD when clealy some are not.

Yep which is why I specified a season for FG.
Certainly worth asking FX why they are not providing correct EPG data or raising the issue with SKY as a go between because I think they are simply continuing the standalone 100% native HD tagging even though they are now simulcast with a mixture.

American TV did that sometimes. Speilberg's Duel was shot for 4/3 TV but was released in widescreen in the cinema over here. It's said that one shot had Speilberg in it at edge of the widescreen frame.

All the best

Re: quantum leap in HD on sci-fi

Over on DS there is a thread on FX HD frequented by someone working at FX HD who does the technical stuff to get these shows on in HD.

He has been asked and answered why everything seems to be getting billed as HD since they moved to simulcasting with FX SD a month or so back.

If I recall he says they are being scanned into HD and transmitted that way hence the HD tag.

If you check out the thread in the Digital Spy Sky HD forum look for posts by shadowlands for more on this discussion.

Re: quantum leap in HD on sci-fi

Found one of the threads here and well he is talking even though in principle I totally understand the point of view.

Yes HD as it is now is simply a reference to the resolution of the broadcast so everything on a HD channel is HD however the general consensus and certainly the lead by SKY channels is that only native HD content is tagged HD and upscaled HD is not.

Re: quantum leap in HD on sci-fi

I had my doubts when The Colbert Report was HD even though it isn't made HD yet, it did of course look better than the SD showing. But once series 1 of FG started it then confirmed it in my mind.
